I saw some plans on Thursday at the aquatic centre for the rest of the sheepfolds. The housing plans are for executive housing, with permits for parking (going to nark a fair few trying to park close to the ground), no social or buy to let housing, plan is very very upscale housing. The foot bridge and the new overpass bridge should be finished by the summer in time for the women's rugby world cup. They also want to reopen the cobbles down to the riverside for redeveloping the riverside park on the north side of the river. It'll involve some redirection of fans going to the stadium through the sheepfolds, but it goes seem quite joined up. The only issue I can really see is the block near the south stand, they have indicative plans to build housing there, but it seems very close to the south stand, possibly too close depending on if the south stand gets extended. Definitely worth looking at if the plans are put online or any more displays that come up locally.
Wonder if this is why there has been noise around an extension, we obviously dont need, however a little like the north stand one, if we dont do now may never be able too
It could well be that and it would make sense. The plans are indicative, not set in stone, so I'd guess some elements would be modified depending on feedback and participation responses. I guess the club will be giving feedback themselves. I've found the site and the feedback form included if anyone is interested in viewing and giving feedback. https://www.sunderland.gov.uk/sheepfoldsconsultation
There is a much bigger space behind the South stand compared to the North stand extension at the time. If the club see the opportunity, I hope it goes through planning.
Getting the old Thompson building down will make a big difference. Anybody got an idea on the time frame for the demolition?
Guess it depends on what they do with it. If it's structurally sound and cheaper than rebuilding it there's no reason not to use it for me. Plenty of ways they can look it modern.
You might be able to correct me if I've heard it wrong, but it's supposed to be in a pretty bad way with asbestos and some other structural issues, which is supposed to be why the flats plan was dropped (more expensive than it's worth to fix).
You just know they'll be some toffee nosed Karen's complaining about all the fans getting drunk and walking past their house
No It's still an aspiration at this stage, looking at 2030+ before anything happens on that. If I understand matters correctly.
