I was going to post this last week, but things got in the way. Reading the relegation rivals thread, I thought it would be interesting to see peoples thoughts. I like Selles a lot, given time I think he’ll get us up there, but time has not been on any managers side.
I think you could be right, the PL is so far ahead of us atm, but you have to believe at the same time.
Acuns been lucky as **** with Big fees outgoings last couple seasons Thats all been dried up now And theres no one to sell now Now what
Why would anyone vote for 10 years plus when you can cover the same period with 5 years plus with an extra 5 years thrown in?
Totally agree, the financial gulf between the Prem League and the Championship is widening. Parachute payments are skewing the league. Next year Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester will have a massive financial advantage all the other Championship sides. If they maintain their squads they should all bounce back to the Prem and probably get relegated again! I don't see us getting back, we haven't got the financial clout, and the outlook in Turkey doesn't bode well - (sorry no politics)
I'm generally optimistic, but **** knows. How can we possibly predict with any optimism what will happen given the club's recent track record? I think Selles is a serious manager, but are we going to give him everything he needs, and then give him time to get on with it? Probably not, realistically.
Sheffield Utd arguably a club similar to HCAFC, spent ten years trying to get out of League One. I'd think that if we have poor leadership and interest, like the Blunts did at the time, we could easily spend a similar length of time in L1. If we stay up, next season will be a battle to survive without a complete rebuild. Depends on the owner's goals and objectives.
Burnley, Leeds or Sheff Utd must be bricking. Here they are on 81, 81 and 83 points... the 3 play off places Sunderland 71, Middlesbrough, 60, Coventry 59. In a two leg semi anything can happen.
Tbf at the start of the 2007/08 season I doubt any of us dreamed we'd go up, however the financial gulf now is more extreme then ever, it'll be a mighty effort to get near, but we need to stabilise the kamikaze buying attitude of the owner first, and build a team.
The upcoming Burnley vs Sheff Utd game is more than massive...Burnley win they'll pip the Blunts for 2nd...If Blunts win or get a point they'll finish above Burnley. I was chatting to a Burnley fan after we played them and he said getting back to the prem was a MUST. Though with parachute payments not sure how much of a MUST.
It would certainly help if Acun stopped buggering about with Fenerbahce and concentrated on his UK investment. He's not setting the world on fire with either at the moment.
I was optimistic last year, but even when in the play off spots I didn’t think we were strong enough. I was optimistic this year, but after the pre season & the start we had, it went to a mid table finish, which just got worse as the season went on. So I optimistically predict 5+ years, this is as long as Acun doesn’t do something stupid AGAIN, to add to his list of stupid **** he’s done. In theory, it could be 07/08 all over again next season, I just don’t think it will be.
