1-3 Mundle 2, Jobe Today is a day for us to properly show up in this run in. It feels important that we put in a big performance. I know our form in terms of results is fine, but we've seen the other 3 teams currently in the playoffs places all step it up and show impressive performances lately. It's time for us to do the same and get our game face on for the playoffs.
And we know we’re capable of playing better than we have. RLB seems to be thinking on the same lines as the supporters so I think we’ll see a more expansive game today. He can’t complain about ‘low blocks’ today because West Brom can’t afford to sit back. It’s time to brave and do what Boro did last night.
Haway the lads! We know how mowbrays teams play open and expansive our pace on the break should cause a lot of problems if we get it right, get those play offs secured today and watch the rest squirm
I currently have a few tickets available. Those I had yesterday sold but I’ve had a few messages overnight … … now it’s just a matter of getting as many people in the ground as possible. Ha’way the Lads!!!
https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/25063246.sunderlands-knowledge-tony-mowbray-key-west-brom/ REGIS LE BRIS will try to get the better of Tony Mowbray today, but the current Sunderland boss has been quick to praise the youth-development work conducted by his predecessor during his time at the Stadium of Light.... He bought into the idea of developing young players within the first-team environment, and while he might have clashed with the Sunderland hierarchy over elements of the club’s ‘project’ prior to his departure in December 2023, Le Bris is undoubtedly benefiting from much of the groundwork that was laid during Mowbray’s tenure. "What I know from this coach (Mowbray) is that he gives freedom to his players,” said Le Bris. “He encourages his players to express themselves, and I think that is a really good point to have as a manager. Young players need support and encouragement. You can’t be too demanding about something they haven’t learned yet. They need time, they need experiences, and I think from that point of view, this coach was very good for Sunderland.” In the early days of his own Sunderland tenure, Le Bris had a conversation with Mowbray that helped him settle into his new surrounds. “It was a friendly conversation,” he said. “But it wasn’t really about giving advice. I was happy to meet him, he is a friendly guy who is very easy to speak with. It was a nice conversation.” Plenty of Sunderland’s players know Mowbray intimately, and there are unlikely to be any surprises in the way the Baggies boss sets up his side this afternoon. Mowbray’s Sunderland side was invariably easy on the eye, and the 61-year-old has built up a fully-justified reputation for creating teams that adopt an attractive possession-based approach that can be difficult to counteract if they are allowed to gain the upper hand. “Many players here know Tony Mowbray’s style of play very well,” said Le Bris. “He is a coach whose play is very much orientated to being in possession. He gives freedom to his players, so it is always difficult to identify patterns within his teams. It is more about creativity, and it is tough to manage against that style of play. “We will have to be strong out of possession with our defensive shape because, if we let them take huge confidence, it is always difficult to play against this type of team. It is a part of a game where we will have to be strong, then after that, with the ball, we will have to manage the ball properly and that will allow us to play with our strengths.”
If both teams play the type of football they are capable of it should be a cracking game to watch today. I think we will nick it 1-2, Mayenda and Jobe
I’m in the fair city of York this weekend with the wife for a little break. Absolutely glorious day outside. I may innocently suggest going into the pub for a much needed pint at say…..about 12.30. “Oh look dear, the match is on!……I thought it was a 3.00pm kick off! Silly me!”
Last 6 game going to interesting. We simply must go into the play offs with some kind of form. Starting today at West Brom...a team who may well get into the play offs... We might be playing over 2 legs either West Brom, Boro or Coventry.....Boro have hit some form, Coventry (last week apart) are playing great, and WBA are up and down like a brides nightie.... But we have the players, the coach to start not only winning but performing like we intend to brush these sides away. Next few weeks will be crucial for SAFC.
Haaaaaaaaaaawaaaaaaaaaaay! bacon sarnie scranned pub!!!!!! win today to hang on to the tiny little shred of belief I have left of a nightmare season in the prem
Very true... My point is, whoever it is in the play offs, that form and momentum is the key... We don't have either right now, but there is time to get that... A few teams do have it... we need to start, and today is great time, given they could be the team we face
Tough game. Draw written all over it, I’m sure Mogga gets a brilliant reception, but hope the boys down there then focus on supporting us and follow his applause with a rousing RLB song. Stinks of 1-1 to me, which is fine and I would class as building momentum.
