But a title win on recent history, what do we have, oh yes record low points total potentially. Got to think they are a far more appealing project to a neutral
Not really sure why the title win ten years ago would be relevant? More important is quality of squad, transfer budget, and of course, salary being offered.
Out of the relegated sides, Leicester are clearly in the worst position. I don't know much about Ipswich financially, but they should be able to raise £100m in sales fairly easily. Leicester on the other hand have debt, not many players of value and a hefty wage bill. It wouldn't surprise me if they aren't in the promotion race next season.
Steve Cooper probably top of my list at the moment. Not really given it much thought, I’ll come back to you.
He actually was someone I thought of, probably about same as Rohl in terms of “wanting” him though. Dyche would be another one I’d have above Rohl but probably not realistic to think he’d come.
Not really a downer it just doesn’t feel like the right fit for a promotion chasing team. As far as I’m aware he has thus far managed weaker teams and got them overperforming, which is great and I’m not saying he wouldn’t be able to take a strong team and get promoted, but just feels like a risk we don’t need to take. Cooper really does stand out as someone who has experience of getting a team promoted and, as he showed with Leicester, making a **** team competitive in the top flight
Yeah, I can understand that point of view, and I could also understand SR not wanting to take a risk again at this juncture. On the flip side we all want to be more Brighton, and it's a very Brighton thing to do, so I'm all in on it.
Yeah it’s a risk you take when you are Brighton (solid ish mid table side). Like any relegated team our best shot of coming straight back is next season, then attempt to stay up. Dyche/Cooper feel far more likely to do those things than Rohl right now. Rohl might end up being a top manager and have a great career far above Saints level but just feels like a risk we don’t need to take. We did it before when binning Adkins for Poch and it worked but we had a decent PL side when we got promoted then as it turned out, the gap in ability is massive now so I think the risk is too great in the first season or 2 in the PL whilst you hopefully build a squad
