Congratulations you held on well at the end, that might give the players a bit of confidence I bet you had squeaky bums for the added 6 which turned into 8 minutes of injury time Can I be your lucky charm
Nerves shredded yet again!Saturday really is make or break now. How great is it to get "the only team without a win in 2025" monkey off our back? COYB!!!
Just when beginning to accept the inevitable relegation, another dose of hope. Wolves game on Saturday becomes very consequential now.
Great result and 2 outstanding goals of really high quality but actually I thought our general play on the ball was often really poor this was partly due to Bournemouths press partly just generally poor play. I thought the backline was generally solid, particularly O'Shea and my MOM Townsend. I think both Burgess and Townsend have really earnt their places in the team this season and should be given more of a run there. I thought Morsy and Cajuste did some good things but on the whole were bypassed. I think if we drop down the division and go up again we seriously need to look at the midfield and maybe consider having 3 in there. I thought Ben Johnson was pretty poor. I thought Broadhead, Enciso and Delap were in parts good in other part poor all losing the ball either through poor touch (Broadhead) or running into trouble (Delap and Enciso). The goals were great though and in particular the second goal because it was exactly the type of goal we would've scored in League1 and the Champ. 3 points and a very small glimmer of hope but whatever happens let's go down fighting and try to get some momentum for whatever division we're in.
Spot on as usual, particularly agree with you about Johnson (much as I hate to single out individual players for criticism).
I shall watch the highlights on holiday, but what a turnaround in our fortunes. As a banker for relegation we now have some hope. Most important, we are giving it a real go and going down fighting, club morale and spirit given a boost. PR Suffolk will be rocking this Saturday!
Agree with a lot of ptc's points. Broadhead's first touch was terrible, as was Johnson's most of the time. McK went with a much safer team selection for this game. Choosing men to play instead of kids. Johnson for Omari, Broadhead instead of Clarke. Picked Townsend ahead of Davis, something I think a lot of us felt should've been done weeks ago. There was more physicality in the team, less lightweights, and players that have families that will give far more to the cause to stay up than the younger ones already making more money than they need and less responsibility in their lives. Palmer was good in goal, still holds onto the ball too bloody long but made some crucial saves. CBs were solid, a case of what might've been this season had we just stuck with Burg, who never let's us down. Tuanzebe a rock at RB, another case of what might've been had he been available more this season. Morsy and Cajuste probably the best CM pairing we can field. Enciso was a little frustrating at times but played forward and positive all the time, although losing the ball a bit too often. I thought Delap was mostly poor but he is a handful and has his moments, as well as worrying defenders with his presence. Townsend did what Davis had done over the past two seasons but rarely has in the PL, drive forward, overlap, cut backs from the byline. My lasting thoughts and feelings from the match are that I wish McK had made some of these changes weeks ago. Townsend is just better than Davis has been this campaign, Burgess is a really good CB and should've played more, and we were just overall more solid and competitive without the flair players that haven't produced enough moments of magic to warrant their inclusion in the starting eleven every week up until now. I hope that Kieran sticks with playing the older guys, those with upper body strength that don't get knocked off the ball easily. I don't know what the answer is for the right wing spot, we won with Johnson there but it wasn't convincing. All in all, super bloody happy with 3 points. A win against Wolves to cut the gap to 6 points could start a miraculous run to safety. At the very least it would keep it interesting going into the final few matches. Come on Ipswich!
Well ****, just read on twtd (I'd been avoiding all football sites today until I watched the replay), that Davis and Omari didn't play due to injury. Guess I'm giving McK too much credit for the changes as they seem more forced than made out of just wanting to try something different. Townsend should play every week now, I wouldn't have a problem with Omari on the right though if he's got Axel behind him to cover.
I wasn't able to catch any of the match last night, but I did see the highlights and of course we've got ptc and SD's excellent post-match write-ups for deeper analysis! I'll admit, I didn't see the win coming. Just before kick off, I was convinced we'd lose the game - despite Bournemouth's poor form and recent FA Cup exertions. It certainly feels that Ben Johnson, Burgess, and Townsend gives us a more solid, balanced backline. O'Shea and Tuanzebe were solid once again. I'd like to see us stick with the back four that started last night - even though it's a tight turnaround for Saturday's game against Wolves. Good to see Broadhead get his deserved first goal of the season. Enciso was a handful. Delap is an obvious threat and finally broke his goal-less streak. Hopefully he can push on, be more consistent, and play the pass when it's the better option (like many, one of my bug bears is how he'll take it upon himself rather than play in a team-mate). If he can clear up those elements of his game - and do it quickly - then he's going to be our stand-out best bet to keep scoring the goals to hopefully keep us up. The Wolves match is massive. But it's still conceivable we could win it and struggle to make up what is effectively a seven point gap with goal difference. Come on Ipswich!
Great result but so quiet on the forum as things have not gone well this season. Only saw the highlights but Townsend appears to be an upgrade on Leif defensively and on current form, Burgess is ahead of Greaves. Hope there aren’t wholesale changes for Saturday as most of the winning team surely deserve a chance to go again
Townsend has also looked better than Davis in attack. Making effective overlaps and generally trying to make positive passes and runs, unlike Davis who has looked scared to commit to overlaps and plays the ball backwards too often when in a position to cross or drive forward.
That line up bar Ben Johnson was probably arguably our most consistent/best line up this season. If fit I'd probably bring Hutchinson in on the right (please not the centre). The 2nd goal was a great move and highlights to me what Delap should be doing more of, trying to get in behind and also releasing the ball earlier rather than running into trouble which has been a regularly occurrence this season (Delap, Hutchinson, Enciso, Clarke and Philogene all being guilty of it) which has been at the expense of our quick passing moves. Defensively that is probably our strongest line up, however we definitely lacking as much control on the ball with Woolfenden in the team. It's a real dilemma looking at our CBs going forwards as Burgess and Woolfenden will feel they should've played more this season but we've spent a lot of money on O'Shea who's been one of our most consistent players and Greaves who hopefully has got the makings of a superb CB. Interesting that Burgess contract is up in the summer bar the Newcastle game he's looked every bit a PL defender this season, and absolutely remarkable achievement from him given he couldn't even get in the team in League 1.
