All that’s true - and they seem to have let him off the Hokey Cokey he did at Portsmouth. What’s just as galling is the difference a good keeper can make.. cooper and Trafford have statistically saved their clubs stacks of points bottom line is, if we had Trafford and Burnley had meslier we’d already be promoted and they’d be fighting for a play off place. Here's some keeper stats, you need to go to squad advanced goalkeeping and sort by PSXG+/- to see them ranked by how many goals they've saved their team, all other things being equal (which they're not of course): https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepersadv/Championship-Stats This is just about shot saving. Meslier’s having a good season by his standards. The dropped cross won’t count here as he had no chance with the shot after he’d dropped it. So ignoring his calamity cross handling and decision making... In pure ‘did he save what he should’ shooting terms, he’s merely below average, saving slightly less than he ‘should’. Emu’s recommended buy last summer (Johannson @ stoke) tops the charts… saving 14 more goals than average. Burnley 11, Sheffield united 7. There’s another table that turns this into an xg table. Last time I checked we ‘should’ have been 15-20 points clear. All the top sides are close to expected for goals scored, the difference is almost all in the defensive stats. What i'm really saying is if the club had listended to me and got rid of the keeper, then listened to emu and taken his choice for a few million. We'd be promoted by now and having a really boring end of season wondering if we'll break the points record and guessing who we're going to sign for the PL.
You’re not watching last seasons for Hull then, google it as most are on Twitter and TikTok 4 years ago You are missing the point though mate, we face very few quality shots that need a worldly save. We just want the basic errors that gift the opposition a goal stopped, or someone who can come and catch a basic ball lobbed into the box
Johannson was my pick after relegation. Sell Meslier for £10 million and get rid of his wages and get Johannson who had 1 year left on his contract and was on around 2k a week at the time. We would have saved a fortune and got in the PL last season. We'd have a 48000 stadium next year.
I can't understand how anyone can defend Meslier. I've wanted him gone for 3 seasons. This argument that it's too late in the season to make the change is bonkers, if anyone else in the team was constantly making shuddering blunders then they'd be out, no questions asked. Why do you think it'll be ok to play him for the 7 remaining games even though he'll continue to be ****e? Luton will bombard him if he plays on Saturday, so will every other team until the end of the season. He needs to be taken out of the firing line, immediately. As for Piroe being knackered, he just had 2 weeks off! He's a carthorse, slow as a barge who pops up and scores the odd goal. I think joseph would give us more in a tough away game at Luton on Saturday. And don't get me started on Aaronson, he's as weak as piss and shouldn't be let anywhere near our starting 11.
Meslier doesn’t handle pressure well either, he’ll know the fans want him dropped, he’ll be aware of every sigh of relief and groan of despair, it’s only going to get worse
