    Your views?

I have been behind him but think we have lost our way and he so often in previous games set us up too conservatively and has not changed the team around enough during the game.

His comments after the match sound very repetitive game on game too.

I know with a proven goalscorer and just a little more precision with our passing and putting balls into the box it could be different.....

    but............

True. But, he has done ok for his first full season. Hasn't had the best hand dealt either.

However, saying that he does spout his mouth off then backtrack a fair bit. Well, changes his tune a bit. Also, sometimes I think he talks nonsense. But, so do I a fair bit!

I hope he stays next season. We aren't going to invest much over summer, and he knows the ropes a bit better now. Just as uninspiring as the majority of our performances this season though.

I just am not sure about his tactics....passing around in defence and then losing it...... fast balls forward then losing possession...... passing bak and around the half way line etc.....

maybe we just dont have the players.... certainly up front

I do wonder too if the Pozzos are just content to keep us in mid table whlist they sell the club.

He has done well enough with threadbare resources to be in the promising young manger bracket. Other clubs might come calling, so another unknown could arrive.

Tom will be another young coach probably brought up in a certain way that no matter what players they have their tactics and style will be the same.

Trouble is that can be very risky and a bit passive if it’s slow and predictable without much attacking threat .

I am afraid to say that the current style of passing it out from the back, retaining possession with sideway passing is the current way of playing; It is even in the third tier of French football. It does all look very passive, and some on here get really cheesed off with it. No doubt we will get another set of tactics one day.

Trouble is even non league teams with big physical defenders do it so look totally lost and ill at ease playing that way .

I mean soon even keepers will be scouted on how they pass and not saving ability .

You are right - probably be a new trend eventually.

I think in 4,5 or 6 years he could/would be the perfect manager for our club because in that time he could learn the art of making subtle changes during and prematch to be able to compete with any team at our level or higher and not be as rigid as he is now

His problem with us now is he does not have the experience or maybe confidence to make changes halfway through a game to take the opposition by surprise, that is not his fault but just down to his lack of time as a manager so far, to be fair there are some games where he has made changes and stormed to victory and some where his changes have given some impetus to the opposition instead

If the Pozzos decide to keep Tom but sell a couple of players ie Giorgi and Imran and the promising youngsters on the fringe can step up we may have good or better season than this next year, judging by the figure in the list on another post the club could make huge savings by releasing/selling the likes of Okbona, Ince, Sissoko and Bachman without destroying the squad, out of Georgi and Imran I think we would be better of with Imran, we must keep Baah and Vata because of the damage they can cause to defences

Tom has two years on his Contact so get rid of the overpaid veterans, sell one or two of the other well paid first teamers and promote the youngsters that are proving they are our future, plus one or two experiences players at this level and see where we are in two years, if then his Contract is not extended we can thank Tom for his service and loyalty to the Club and fans and begin a new chapter

Not eventually Mark it is here now and will remain so until a next generation GT wins something by the right combination of his way and the current way

That is true - and full backs are more wingers told to defend a bit.

What we don't do which others seem to do is press particularly well - looking at Bayo here.

Need stronger legs in attack to do that.

Tom has done a solid job with what he has and had made a better fist of management compared other young retired footballers eg Rooney and Troy.

I'd rather loose 5-3 by playing GT & AD's style than the current way. In fact if we went back to that way it would create confusion in the other teams! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

It's true most teams play this way, however the difference is the number of times they chance putting the ball into the opponent's penalty area. Personally I can't see the point of edging up the pitch with a load of intricate passing only to bottle threading the ball through for fear of losing possession.
Yes Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City play the same way, but always looking to move the ball forward and create a chance. We seem to have prioritised possession stats over the number of chances, as if waiting for a red carpet leading to the goal to magically appear between defenders.

I completely agree, duggie. But Baah is the exception to the rule.

I get the impression there isn’t so much love for Tom now but maybe spent too long on the Watford Observer site where we seem to have gone from keep Tom he is going great to this has been one of the most boring seasons ever and he hasn’t got a clue (mainly over letting Rajovic go )

That's the big issue. It's all gone a bit stale. When we're on the up there's not too many that can live with Watford. Whatever is happening on the training ground it is not translating itself on a matchday.
