So we get rid of a player who was actually doing well for us and sign Amrabat to use us as his pension?
No, we got rid of him because we signed Kamara, Belloumi and Millar, we only signed Amrabat because two of them got crocked.
He was doing a job for us on the wing. The sort of player you need in a dogfight. I said at the time it was stupid to sell him.
Langstaff is not Championship quality and Jatta probably isn’t either. I’d be really suspicious of any striker who scores loads in League Two, unless they were a young talent with a high ceiling. Langstaff is 28 and Jatta is 26. Magennis scored loads for us in League One and was ****e in the Championship. The gap between League Two and Championship is even bigger.
Fair enough. Still not going to get the most from him if he knows his future is elsewhere. Especially considering he was limited even when fully committed.
Initially I thought we’d let him go for a fee rather than on a free in the summer. But we are paying amrabat to sit on the bench, would it have been cheaper to leave Ryan there and let him leave on a free
Depends what the players demands were I suppose. Also we already knew longman would make limited impact, especially with restricted minutes. I can see the logic in getting a bit of physicality and experience in for the run in, given our situation. Can't imagine Amrabat breaking the bank.
Amrabat came in as an old head to pass on his experience to the youngsters we are playing out wide (Kamara, Burstow, Vaughan, and Barry are all 21 or under) and potentially have the odd cameo here and there when we need his strength and hustle to see out a game. Longman unlikely to get a game over any of them, so sell while we can, and get a wise old man in on the short term.
Can't believe I can reply to this; I don't know any players from Swiss or Latvian leagues but, since Notts County get quite a few 12.30 kick-offs and since I prefer to watch lower league games to PL ones I've actually seen this kid play, he's a real handful and knows where the goal is, because of his size he draws a lot of fouls as well.
He got an offer to leave, probably for a bit more money. We have better and although they were injured, we still had Kamara and then Lincoln, Gelhardt and Amrabat came in. I'd argue he isn't as good as any of them, so him leaving was best for both parties.
I imagine he'd do okay, he seems like the type of player Millwall, Stoke or Preston would sign, a bit like Akinfenwa-lite with some power and a decent finish.
