Pre the General Election our resident red Ashton was telling us how bad the Tories were (correctly). Now his beloved Labour Party is in government I wonder if he's emigrated because, for some reason, he never comments on their abysmal performance.
Come on Ashton, winter fuel payments, attacking the disabled and how many gangs have been smashed ?
    Don't be shy.

I’m touched you’re so concerned about me :emoticon-0105-wink:<laugh>

I’m still centre left, This Labour governments actions imo hasn’t been, I’ve yet to decide if they’d like to be, but don’t have the leeway financially, or if they’re just Tories in labour clothes.

I will give them time, but at the moment it’s not looking good.

we used to have 2 in Wales PLUS AT LEAST 1 [ 2?] in Scotland and 2 in ENGLAND that I recall

It was rapidly forcast that they wouldnt be after the first 2 -3 weeks ..... they wallowed in the good that the tory's left behind in the first 3 month's [ fiscal figures and trends based on the previous 3 month's, ] then HOPEFULLY they would slowly , or better improve them over the next 3 month's plus.
When you look back whilst they were headless chickens in the first 3 month's they tried to claim a large number of successes but like Rattlesnakes CV it was not true ! as they were culminations of the tory successes that were coming good ..and soon Labour dropped those lines of success pitfalling back to last 14 years/ broken/ etc etc etc. like the house building Tory's left them almost 300, 000 builds in progress or planned ... NOW they failed to complete the 300,000 cycle and down spiked 2025 to 100,000.
Fiscal experts are becoming more and more aligned that the "blackhole" didnt really exist [ OK its hindsight by them ] the economy would have if continuing its tory growth pattern and other things in the mix would have generated the so called missing monies ... bit like you have bills to pay in the future but havent earned the wages yet... Rachel from accounts who never really had the jobs she said = unknowledgeable.........

Milliband is the UK DEATH KNOLL .. was never really a good politician ... he is now the embryonic "grim reaper" waiting to morph!

The Tories financial policies were far more sound than Labours, and may have produced growth, or at least we wouldn't have had the reckless borrowing that Rachel from Accounts has managed, but they were beyond awful at a lot of things, notwithstanding the pandemic, particularly immigration, both legal and illegal.
They still didn't have the guts or gumption to either leave the ECHR, change our justice system, or like a lot of countries such as France and Poland are doing, just ignore it. And Labour wont either.
Between them it will go down in history that the Tories and Labour allowed huge amounts of totally unchallenged and unwanted immigration into the UK, put the whole country at risk, and totally changed the whole make up of the country and British way of life and values for the worse.
    Unforgivable

Another tory started project that given as VERY IMPORTANT and needed expediting .. falling foul of Millipede "ought to be" Banned................

Britain risks missing out on a pioneering £25bn green energy project because of ministerial dithering, one of the country’s most prominent business figures has warned.
Sir Dave Lewis, the former Tesco boss spearheading an audacious plan to power millions of UK homes with cheap solar and wind power from Morocco, has warned that prolonged bureaucracy could derail a scheme that promises to lower household bills, slash emissions and create thousands of jobs.
The scheme is expected to provide electricity for 9m homes and cut carbon emissions from the UK power sector by around 10pc, while also bringing down energy bills through a reduction in wholesale costs.

A new factory employing over 1,200 people has been commissioned in Scotland to provide the thousands of miles of cable needed to connect Morocco with the UK, with the plant eventually expected to supply other clean energy initiatives like it.
However, X-Links is working on parallel plans to reproduce the exact same set-up in Germany and another unnamed country, which will be fast-tracked if the UK version cannot overcome political red tape in the coming months. Instead of exporting power to Britain, X-Links could choose to partner with another state, which would likely then be where the giant cable factory would be built instead of Scotland.

Despite being designated a project of national significance nearly 18 months ago, X-Links is now waiting for Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, to give it his blessing in the form of a long-term inflation-linked contract that will guarantee the company can sell its electricity at a fixed price.
The so-called strike price X-Links is seeking is somewhere in the region of £70 megawatt hours (MWh), making it cheaper than nuclear, biomass, and tidal power, according to Sir Dave.

Meanwhile, the decision to build a completely new factory in south-west Scotland was prompted by a global supply squeeze that is causing a long wait for the copper and aluminium cables, which are roughly the diameter of a saucer.
The current wait is around eight years, and the delays are “getting worse” because demand is rising and there are only three suppliers across Europe. By building its own factory, X-Links will be able to bypass such obstacles.

SPREAD OVER 4 YEARS OR MORE WOULD BE LESS than the annual bill for illegal boat people ....... !!!!

I think(hope) Starmer gets a deal with Trump, I think Trump will start with Tariffs on us but believe we will get a deal in time.

Bloody hope so because we were told ( I believed - R&W didn’t) that we could do deals independently on leaving the European Union.

We'll know the answer in a short while.

Trump and the American regime don't like Europe, and with good cause.

Despite the unkind things previously posted on social media about Trump by the likes of Lammy, Rayner and Starmer himself, like you, I still hope we will be treated favourably.
But Trump and Vance can see that this country is being run by idiots right now who want us to think we're all living under the Stasi in East Germany in the 1960's and 70's !

One thing worries me, the fact that hundreds of Labour Party members went to the USA to promote Biden.......Trump takes things personally, especially the idiots Lammy and Raynor of their ridiculous criticism of Trump in the last few years and that won't help us either.

They had a point about Trump, but never a good idea to criticise politicians from other countries I agree.

And ask yourself why Starmer is still cozying up to Macron and Europe over tariffs and the nonsense ‘coalition of the willing’ in this example, who are now all considering their responses to Trump when A) we got a better deal than the rest of Europe b) Note to Starmer, we are actually no longer part of Europe ?!!
Answers on a postcard to ‘Starmer Desperately Wants Get Get Us Back In The EU’ !

There are around 38,000 asylum seekers currently housed in hotels, up 8,000 since the election, despite Labour’s pledge to end the use of such accommodation. It comes as the number of migrants crossing the Channel this weekend passed 30,000 since Sir Keir Starmer won the election in July.

    Up 39% under Labour
You’re doing a great job Starmer to ensure our taxes will continue to rise as we hurtle towards recession
On the plus side it’s good to see Israel controlling their borders by kicking out the 2 Labour MPs ! Should they not be looking after their own constituents here in the UK rather than the people of Gaza ? You can see where their priorities lie !
Also good to see Labour having to undermine their own mad rush to net zero and see sense over petrol car production being relaxed from £15k penalty to £12k
Not great but a step towards some sense

They’ve finally got the memo that the vast majority of motorists don’t want electric cars

I don’t think most people give a hoot if cars are electric or not, its costs, and lack of infrastructure which are prohibitive are present.

In a cost of living crisis which is still getting worse, purchasing a new car whether conventional, hybrid or electric is beyond a lot of people, myself included
But the fact is that we have the most expensive electricity in the world at the moment which is harming businesses, manufacturing and normal households
Plus as you say in respect of electric vehicles, there isn’t the infrastructure to support it, and if everyone had electric cars the National Grid couldn’t support the demand for electricity

With a Human Rights lawyer as PM who favours illegals and criminals over his own people it will continue to get worse as long as Labour are in power

They bleat on about how broke the country is then ignore one of the biggest costs and the simmering anger of the majority of the average British person

Did you know there are now over130 charities supporting, and in favour of immigrants, who are surely part funded by the Government ?

31,000 since 04/07/2025 .. and NO NEWS on how going to stop it escalating ... and the cost to the british tax payer is the premium we are paying to house them ... is the freezing of the tax thresh hold of £12000 [ ish ] frozen for another 3 years!
the annual cost of housing [ not day to costs like phones and pocket money ] for just the ones LABOUR has allowed / encouraged into the country is £1,736,000,000
