How much better was that! Should have won no question

    1. Williams
    2. MacKenzie
    3. Nevitt

2 and 3 could have been any of the other outfield players as everyone contributed but I thought that Macca and Nev summed up our performance with their running and commitment to the cause.

    1. J. Williams
    2. Mc Kenzie
    3. Gbode.
It was a good all-round team effort... Gills should have scored a couple more goals - but - at least they played some progressive football, and created some chances.
The defence appear to be solid - Colchester didn't really make Morris work for his money. Gale should have dealt with the ball (( which replays show was clearly 'out.' )) He will learn from that mistake -- and, despite not having his best game, he will have a decent future in the game.
I was pleased that, especially in the 2nd half, Gills created several chances - and- should have scored a couple of more goals....... So, there is reasonable creativity (( on rare occasions )). This needs to be consistent throughout the season.... and, of course we need a prolific striker.... that isn't Clarke !

1, J Williams best game I have seen him for us by a long way.
2,M Clark positive performance well taken penalty again.
3 R Hutton got some great crosses into the box never afraid to take on defenders.

I thought they all played well tonight showed a lot more intensity going forward just need a little more calmness in front of goal. Not getting too carried away but the early signs under Gareth ate looking good

Really positive and pleasing performance from us last night. First time I've dragged myself to Priestfield in a few months and I left the ground feeling rather positive about the situation. We attacked more last night than I've seen us do in several years and despite Colchester chasing the play-offs, we looked the much better team. Unfortunately our strikers still can't hit a barn door to save our lives and some of the balls thrown into the box weren't the best (especially our corners), but we were at least getting the ball in there far often than we have done under several of the last different management teams. I do hope Ainsworth can try and find a striker out of Gbode somewhere because his finishing really is rather poor and him and Nevitt as a partnership really isn't that fruitful. Running around a lot should be the minimum, in my opinion so no points from me for either.

    1. Jonny Williams - Barely seen him this season but when he's given a platform to show what he can do, he can easily be a level above the rest of the side. I hark back to the drubbing by Bromley when he was our only player that showed up and then immediately got dropped by Coleman. Wrexham away last season he was far and away our best player too. We desperately need to acquire that from him, week in and week out, especially assuming that Dack is probably out the door.
    2. Robbie McKenzie - I questioned whether he was loud enough to be a captain previously, but he put in a captain's performance last night and was far an upgrade that what we've seen from Little in recent weeks. I rather hope Little doesn't get back in the side for a while as McKenzie and Williams were a far more positive pairing.
    3. Max Clark - Really getting back to the levels we saw from him at the end of last season. Clearly a player that needs an arm around him but he's chipping in with the goals now and pleasing to see the positive performances are back. Rightfully was criticised by me earlier in the season, but if he plays like that continuously, he will rightfully earn my praise too.

Special mention goes to Aaron Rowe who really caused their defenders problems in the small cameo he had when he was allowed to go wide. When Ainsworth does eventually change the shape, I'm excited about what he could produce for this team. Also well done to Oli Hawkins who looks like he's finally worked out how to win a foul from a referee, and all the better he's getting it done in the 18 yard box too.

From where I was sat in the Rainham End, it didn't look like the ball fully crossed the line to me, nor did it to my mate sat next to us. Didn't stop the remonstrating from all those sat around us of course, and the Gordon Road linesman is one of the worst I've seen in many a year, but I thought it was an avoidable situation and Sam should have handled it better than he did.

A much better performance, best for a long time. Sadly barn doors and pickaxe handles , we just cant score more than one goal.
Johnny Williams what a player, well deserved Man of the Match.
Well the new Gaffer has had a great start, two games without a loss

I didn't believe the ball had gone out either, certainly not the 'whole' of the ball. Not having a go at the lad, but he failed to deal with it properly, so it gifted them a goal they didn't deserve on the run of play at the time. But this stuff happens and you learn from it, it's how we learn, by making mistakes - he's a top lad who will go far and last night will serve as a valuable lesson in the progress of what potentially could be a great career for the lad.

    1. Max Clark, i really can't believe this is the same guy, full of fight and spirit, this selection is not even for the goal, I like to see strength and stamina in a player and he was taking no nonsense from Colchester or the ref last night.

    2. Hutton, his runs on the wing and crosses into the box were nice to see, unlike everyone on here who has selected JW, i felt his positioning and thought process was questionable at times. I hasten to add, I've always liked Jonny Williams, when everyone else was hating him, so it's weird to think I'm seeing the opposite to everyone again, but I love you all, and you all know I'm right really...cough.

    3. Gale, the lad made a mistake, but it will take some doing to dislodge this guy from my top three. On last nights showing, Max and Sam would defo be starting in my team.

We are still missing that killer instinct up front and I don't know the answer to it, Gbode the new gaffer can work on. I don't feel Nevitt is the answer and just turning up for the ocassional game, don't do it for me...I swear I was watching a different game to everyone else last night, I'm just thankful there's not a thumbs down button lol.

Did you not see an improvement then @brb ? The stats show we had about 20 shots, 60% of possession and something like 40 crosses into the box. Colchester defended well and had Jack Tucker playing in a slightly more forward position for them. They definitely had the lion share of decisions go their way when it came to the referee but it's the best whole game performance I've seen for some time.

Its interesting you mention the ref - Colchester fans on X all slating him saying he gave us everything and was just about the worst they have seen all season!

    Yes mate.

There was improvement without doubt, but we desperately need a goal scorer, and not forwards parading as goal scorers. We've had this problem for so long now it's ridiculous.

It's great to have all the possession for a change and plenty of shots, then there's the but...I think the team for several seasons now has forgotten the object of the game is to put the ball in the net.

No point putting me in the VAR room mate, I'd just unplug everything.
