Good luck to him. He's looked promising when playing for us and I'm sure he'll have a good career. He wants the move and won't sign a contract so the clubs hands are tied. I've no issue with the sale and it's a decent fee. We get lost in all of the paper talk but let's remember that £10m is the same amount that it's cost us to have Isidor, Mepham (if the rumoured fee is true) and Mundle. We could get a young prospect to sit behind Mundle and play a bit from the bench whilst spending the funds upgrading another position.
Trey is a central striker and nothing more from what I see Finn is the boy to look out for next. On the right .
£10m+ , plus a 20% sell on, for a young lad with very few games , with one year on his contract who wanted to leave. Well done Speakman. Those rejected bids in January are proof again that we do look after ourselves
No problem with that. Good business for a lad who has barely played a game for us. I’m sure he will have a great career, but he was never going to sign a contract and it’s great money for us in the summer.
Importantly it’s guaranteed money as well, if that makes sense. We can begin planning for the window knowing we have £10m minimum coming in. If the deals aren’t done it’s always just hypothetical money. Imagine if this £10m coming in allows us to have the confidence to offer £4-5m for Mepham now, and see if we can get that deal done before others come in.
Just going to reiterate my favourite opinion. Selling is good! Bringing in money now and protecting ourselves with big sell on clauses is how smart clubs operate. Something like £25m for Clarke and Watson before addons are accounted for plus big sell on %'s is really good business in my opinion. Both of them with around a year left on their deals as well. Opens up so many possibilities in terms of recruitment. How many non parachute payment Championship clubs are bringing in £10m+ for a player who isn't a key member of their squad? I'd bank on none.
This is the healthiest the club has been for years. think we could see another 60-80m+ in sales in the summer, we can build a better squad with tad higher wages. futures bright, futures red n white
Watson is biffing his daughter. That's where the Harte interest begins and ends. He's represented by Unique Sports Group
on this point - it’s interesting but perhaps entirely coincidental (and perhaps not) that rumours of us agreeing a fee for Mepham have come out on the same day we’ve agreed a deal for Watson. just saying…
That'll do nicely, I never thought Watson looked happy at Sunderland and certainly didn't on Saturday ... ... I wouldn't play him again tbh. Under Donald we'd have accepted half that price, we're in very good hands.
Good business. Player didn't want to stay, get the best deal you can and move on. Players will still come here. They see a pathway. Hartes a prick.
I understand the sentiment but actually whilst we retain a 20% sell on, it’s in our interest to keep developing him. Notwithstanding he could still be the player to score the winner in the playoff final. if his heads right, and I trust RLB to ascertain if it is, I back him to play.
players will both see a pathway for youth into our first team AND see that we help talent get big moves. It’s a double win on that count for us.
Wish all the best, Thats all you can do. we can and will reinvest into players that can take us to the next level
