If the Mods won't shut it down, perhaps the decent, fair minded posters on here ( vast majority) ,will achieve the same result by totally ignoring it.

Why does that matter? They don’t play for Sunderland like these two we’re talking about.

I don't even believe we'd have that mate, there'd be immediate posts of,
'Don't get carried away, let's see who's sold off and who we sign because this squad will struggle in the PL'.
    I'd put money on it.

I've no doubt it's a Sunderland supporter who's dredged up these 'likes' and been 'outraged', being outraged is a default for some of our supporters.

100% this - who really gives a **** what a player "likes" on a social media feed.

People need to remember its a job to them - lets say you work at Mcdonalds are you not allowed to like a post by burger king FFS

I don't really give a **** about a couple of players liking a post about some other players celebrating a cup victory.
What really gets on my tits is our so called fans on a witch hunt about a couple of likes on social media.
We have some absolute melts who call themselves fans but are outraged about something to do with Newcastle when in truth all there attention should be on the team they purport and say they support.
IMO concentrate on Sunderland and forget about them. We can't effect them but we can have an effect on our team.
In short 'put your toys back in your prams and grow the **** up'

How? its a job - its only you getting your knickers in a twist over it.

The sooner you realise players really couldnt give a **** who they play for as long as they are paid the better

Do you think these fans are the ones who have a short concentration span and therefore have to leave early? Asking for a friend

It's quite ironic that people are saying these players, who spent one second liking a photo, have been stupid and embarrassed the club …

… then spend days creating a massive deal of it and making the club a target for other idiots on social media.

Seriously, who looks more stupid … the players or ‘the outraged and furious’ <doh>

I think these fans need to look up what it means to be a supporter. I get annoyed and frustrated at times and often look at why we are not at it all the time. But a bit of thought and some logical thinking often leads to more reasonable reasons for this.
The trouble is social media and forums give a wider voice to some of the disenfranchised among us who's opinions are formed by other disenfranchised voices and so the cycle continues.
One absolute arseholes opinion can become every arseholes no matter how ill conceived that opinion is. The meaning of support is below in case anybody has any doubt.

providing assistance, encouragement, and resources to help team members achieve their goals and work effectively together, fostering a positive and collaborative environment

Can't be arsed to read all of the thread but has anyone considered that they might be friendly with some of their players? The likes could be that they are happy for their mates. Nowt wrong with that in my eyes.

It's a bit of a faux pas by them to not think it would wind up some of our fan base but I personally couldn't care less.

If Chris Rigg is promoted to the PL …

… should Newcastle ban their players from congratulating him?

Former Sunderland striker Marco Gabbiadini says criticising Black Cats players for liking social media photos of Newcastle United's League Cup victory celebrations are "nonsense".

Gabbiadini told BBC Radio Newcastle's Total Sport that those directing abuse at Salis Abdul Samed and Jenson Seelt following their bitter rivals' victory over Liverpool at Wembley should "grow up".

"I don't think it's something to get heated about. It's just a click on a mouse," he said. "Really? Grow up.

"We don't know the background to this; they may be friends with these players. These players haven't been brought up in Sunderland or Newcastle and they are aware of the rivalry.

"But to be honest, truthfully - it's an absolute nonsense. Give yourselves a break.

"We're the oldies with social media but the more I see it the less I use it because within five or six comments it ends up being a slangfest.

"It's the equivalent walking past each other in the office and saying 'well done, it must have been a good day'.

"It's the social media version of that but it becomes public and becomes a big thing.

"If I bumped into Alan Shearer in a bar, you'd have say 'It's about time, I'm glad one of us has won something', - you just make small talk."
