No, not for me, spend the money elsewhere. Do we have a problem with standing these days? It seems like those that want to stand have congregated in the same areas anyway so it’s not an issue. The only reason for me is if you put it in areas to encourage more standing and improve the atmosphere, but that’s going to be expensive and in all likelihood wouldn’t work anyway.
I think the key word here is 'safe'. Sure, people stand in seated areas regardless but it really isn't safe.
I've always been in favour of safe standing sections, very disappointing that it's not already been adopted.
I stand anyway. It’s pretty safe, but you still have to listen to the occasional football league edicts to sit down. I know the club don’t enforce it, but even so it’s stupid. I think safe standing is a subtle but important message that standing is fine, in fact it’s encouraged, which certainly won’t harm the atmosphere.
In this litigious world we live in, I'm surprised that clubs haven't put actual standing areas in rather than tolerating it in seated areas, which has to be the worst of all worlds and potentially far more expensive. Where I see an issue is, if they have a safe standing area (how ****ing nannyfied does that sound) then there'll be less tolerance for people standing in other areas. As we have found to our cost, despite what people claimed, forcing people to move is not a good idea, so the locations will be important.
Surely if you were going to do it you would have some kind of trial probably a section of the North Stand Seems to work well at other grounds but who would pay for it ?
I would definitely be in favour of safe standing but feel it would just be allocated to such a small section tucked away in a corner. I think its about the phycology. By standing you somehow feel more involved in the game (and if you like buzz phrases) that gives a better match day experience and also creates a better atmosphere.
Would the tubbies who go to watch efcee be able to stand all game? I mean there’s probably enough space to make all N Stand home standing and still have enough chairs for them, but even so.
No But then I don’t sing at them either, or shout abuse or encouragement at the actors (apart from at Rocky Horror Picture Show maybe)
Isn't this the case why Rovers are now a more vibrant club than Hull, standing in the East Stand at Craven Park?
A group of fans singing in West Upper would definitely be heard. A small group made attempts to get things going on Saturday in West Upper. A pity more don’t do the same. No doubt the West Upper Stand rep will be complaining.
