Yeah, it used to be quite interesting, but this thread has now just become "people argue with idiot. Idiot ignores, then posts more idiocy". It's quite dull. I think I'm going to take a break from this thread, sadly. He doesn't deserve the oxygen.

So, given that countries like China are producing so much environmental waste that the UK's net zero efforts are not making a huge amount of difference, what is the solution?

Do we go full Trump and just go all in for energy over environment or do we stick to our guns?

To me I think the whole climate thing has been approached wrong by governments.

From day 1 it has been 'let's tax polluting things'. Where this is wrong is that sometimes it isn't easy to change. Take cars for example. You cannot overnight change from ICE to electric. What happens is in the interim, people who cannot convert to electric pay through the nose on petrol taxes, car tax, emission tax etc. What is the solution? I don't know, but this approach leads to a lot of people thinking that the climate crisis is a made up cash cow for governments.

At some point we need to make the choice to not buy the high impact products. Our issue is how comfortable we are and our need to consume. Not so long ago, I tried to make a shed for my street full of garden tools etc (which I was paying for) so we had one mower, one strimmer etc. It has always struck me that we have way too much of each thing. A few friends and I now share all of our tools, so if we need something new, we buy one and share. After all, how many jigsaws or electric planes do we really need? It's funny when you live in a small remote community how much sharing happens. As a community we generate electricity (hydro), have district heating (local biomass) etc.

This is old, but has always stuck with me -

What we do is important. Like you, I want my son to have a full life and if we do nothing, he won't.

And I'm tired of it, when can we send the Anglo-Saxons back to Germany?

QUOTE. What is your opinion on hijabs?

I am not qualified to comment, I have never worn one, I prefer a baseball cap for my choice of headware.

I don’t get why he went with hijabs. They are not a big deal. Burkas are much more problematic.

Just been thinking about London being unrecognisable from 30 years ago.

Isn’t this everywhere? Did your area look the same in 1995 as it did in 1965? Or in 1965 as it did in 1935?

It is called progress and evolution. Though some posters have just barely evolved from Neanderthal.

Well, iirc they recorded the first sighting of an immigrant trying to make it to Britain in a boat.

Those with pre conceived views on Islam and Muslims fed by sensationalist posts on social media disgraces and other discreditable sources would do well to watch this on BBC 1:-
Jason Mohammad introduces Eid al Fitr prayers from Bradford Central Mosque, marking the first live broadcast of the service on a mainstream UK channel.

The main differences are in the gradual degradation of high streets and local businesses because of internet shopping. That plus the death of community hubs/pubs and growth of gyms. None of which are to do with immigration.

PARIS — Marine Le Pen and eight other former MEPs from the French far right were found guilty Monday of embezzling European Parliament funds.

Le Pen banned from running for office. Updates on BBC News.

So true. Yet the seeds were sown long ago by the UK particulary ready acceptance of chainstores, which lead to identikit highstreets - they then closed failing stores and left for the internet.

Small towns in Italy have green pharmacy crosses on every street, as the Italians blocked companies like good ole Boots coming in! My brother lives in Lecco (45k pop) I reckon it easily has more shops than Southampton.
