My father took me to both the away game at Swindon and the home game with Plymouth. I remember that Keith Eddy had a penalty saved at Swindon (the only time that he failed to score a penalty for Watford) in the first half before Barry Endean scored the winner five minutes from time. It was a tense affair, but Watford defended stoutly and succeeded in negating the threat of Swindon's talented Don Rogers. It was a great evening to be a supporter of Watford because Swindon were Watford's main rival for promotion and the Division 3 title.
And Swindon had just demolished Arsenal in the League Cup final at Wembley a couple of weeks previously - making our win all the sweeter.
I sat by the goal line for the Swindon game. The stewards or police were worried that children would get crushed on the terracing so moved us over the fence/wall (can't remember which). There were so many other children between me and the goal that I couldn't see when Eddy missed the penalty so I had to look at which supporters were cheering to find out what had happened. Was this game played in the evening because it clashed with the Grand National and they thought people would stay at home to watch that?
Can't be sure, but I think you're right. That was the third year in a row that I'd drawn the winner in a sweep at work.
When Watford became World Club Champions. Given the date I'm a tad suspicious... https://thewatfordtreasury.com/blogs/news/by-far-the-greatest-team-the-world-has-ever-seen?
One of our most famous days with that goal and Troy’s late penalty. Just don’t mention what happened next ! https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/25068795.day-watford-beat-wolves-reach-fa-cup-final/
That was the last match I attended - like everyone else, I suppose, I was sure we had blown it until GD scored that amazing goal. I often wonder what he was thinking after he scored the winner - ran straight to the Wolves fans to celebrate!! Glad I got sick and missed the final though.
He had only been on the pitch for about half an hour!! And going to the other end to celebrate would have been justifiable time wasting.

I can remember the days when you could do most of this at Vicarage Road and other third division grounds - didn't need to go to Non-League matches for the privilege. Although beer and tea was cheaper...
