1997-2007 Tony Blair decided it was better to let British people sponge off the welfare system and bring in cheaper immigrants to do the work. At that time most of the immigrants came from the EU.
2007-2010 Gordon Brown did nothing to change that policy even when the country was bankrupt.
2010-2016 David Cameron was happy to keep bringing in the immigrants.
2016-2019 Theresa May could not rely on EU immigrants so more started coming from other sources.
2019-2022 Boris Johnson said that he would cut down on the immigrants but, of course, just like everything else with Boris it was all bluster.

I have spotted a pattern here. Millions of British people who could work and contribute to society live on welfare state handouts and millions of immigrants overload public services...

This is why the Conservative Party is already finished (Kemikaze cannot even give Stalin a hard time at PMQs) and at the next election the Labour Party will join them.

You think Reform will be in power? <laugh>

I'll make a bet with you, if Reform are voted in i'll actually read one of your posts. The really long ones.

<doh> I never mentioned Reform; however, I have concluded that neither of the big two are fit for office and have no realistic path to a majority at the next election.

I have seen that Andrew Neil thread and looking at some of the replies it becomes a debate about countries that allegedly have successful wealth taxes. Someone mentioned Norway and some dodgy statistics showing how much they raked in from a wealth tax and then somebody posted that graphic that I shared on here the other day.

So it was not you that voted for Alex Salmond, Nicola Sturgeon, Humza Yousaf or John Swinney?

Who was it that decided that the quickest Road to Serfdom for Jockshire was voting for the one trick pony SNP rather than Labour? It was not the English...

Tax the rich. Oh aye, that'll really work and isn't the politics of envy as all. <doh>

Currently the top 1% earners pay 29% of the total tax revenue and the top 10% pay 69% of the total tax revenue in the UK and that doesn't include the tax contributions from their employees.

The recent OBR reports show that Reeves is relying on foreign money coming in for the interest rates they can achieve here by banking in Sterling, as that will keep our exchange rate having a decent appearance despite the other metrics falling apart.

Increase the tax on the wealthy residents, and they'll simply shift it around so they are out of the Country and gaining from this foolishness.

    I don't vote buddy.

Last time I voted, was for Lid Dems because they were the only party able to win against the SNP.

I am a natural conservative, as are most sane adults.

    Disagree

I don't believe tax funds anything, not really, not in a "we can't afford that because we didn't raise tax" way

    It used to obviously,

Not since money became make believe did tax pay for a single thing though

    It just regulates the economy

Eliminating tax would just increase prices or devalue your cash

    Probably don't want that

    The point still stands.

My council tax is now over £400 a month, they want an extra £50 to take away my garden waste, which was previously part of the deal, and now my other bins are on a 3 week rota as opposed to 2. <laugh>

    I'm paying more, for less.
