We weren't signatories to the Schengen treaty but freedom of movement as EU members along with the Erasmus scheme for students were given up with brexshit.

Exactly why I was a remainer, that freedom to cross borders was a godsend.

So, how much has it gone up since Labour took power? How many as a proportion have been returned as compared with the previous government? When did the big upturn in numbers happen? Was it when labour took power or was another event the big trigger? What proportion of these small boat arrivals come from truly dangerous countries? How many uncontrolled small boat landings have happened since Labour came to power?

I'm not fine with it. What irritates me is the disinformation. I saw a post on a friend's facebook feed the other day, sourced from GB news that detailed an asylum seeker's benefits compared with a pensioner. It claimed that the asylum seeker got £30k per year, but it just wasn't true or even vaguely. Quite interesting - https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/.../why-do-people-believe-things-that-arent-true

The human brain is really just a story decoding device. Facts are less important than narrative. People will do their best to ignore facts when it makes them question the narratives they live by.

It is like the “Ukraine and the USA are to blame for the Ukraine war” people. It is so easy to disprove, but they will seek out charlatans who support their view and ignore the direct words of Putin on the topic.

What are the dangerous and aggressive incursions in the last twenty years by
    Russia, he is talking about?
Aren’t the American bases there to protect Greenland from such occurrences and if so, have they been failing in their duty?
And if Denmark and Europe hasn’t done enough to protect Greenland, how about European forces taking over the current American bases with the Americans being told “We’ve got this. You can go home now.”

A couple of days ago Vance was saying what a good bloke Putin was and hiw he admired Russia. Today he is saying that the Russians have their eyes in Greenland. No wonder Vance sees no issues with Putin and Uckraine as this is exactly whats he wants to do to Greenland.

I am finding it very stressful that America is now a genuine threat to much of the free world. I have no idea where this will stop but i think we need to send them a message and at least have expel their staff from the UK embassy for 6 months. I would like our goverment to take a much stronger line and perhaps start offering more cooperation to China against America so as to undermine Trump. Let him realise there are other options other than America.

This is the most informative interview I have seen, regarding the American situation.
Ignore the click bait headline, it’s a good listen from someone who knows his stuff and has worked at the highest levels in US government.

This is a briliant interview. However i do thi k that it ignores the fact that Americans voted for Trump because they disliked what the Democrats had offered the people. Biden was pretty useless and peooke wanted a change.

Trump is an absolute disaster but all these Democrats fail to recognise that their failings made an idiot like Trump viable. I get the argument totally and think this interview is brilliant. They should have put up these arguments during the campaign. It is too late now and i fear they will struggle to wrestle back control from the Republicans. By time they regain power , Trump will have transformed the political , economic and military landscape. I think Trump will move against the Democrats to ensure that they do not recover. The Republicans will hold onto control of US fir rhe next 8 years and China will benefit massively. I can see China becoming unvincible

It all started with Blair in 97. He started opening the flood gates. The Tories accelerated it for some reason.

Now Labour are going full throttle on destroying the country.

Your lame stat doesn’t hide the truth. The country is literally being destroyed by mass immigration. London is completely unrecognisable. In the last 30 years it has become a crime ridden third world country and it is spreading fast throughout the rest of the country.

If anyone has visited California or San Francisco you will have seen the end result of leftist open border policies that the large corporations & globalists are pushing hard. The very same that the hlobalisgs are implementing here. Homeless people doing drugs and defeating in the street, dodgy men hanging outside schools etc.

I don’t know why you would claim this isn’t true. London has fallen and the rest of the UK will follow.

Maybe you are so unbothered by it as you haven’t had to live through it yet. The casual crime, litter throwing, men outside schools etc degrading everything about where you live

    London has always been cosmopolitan.
As someone whose wife is an immigrant , i find Os's post naive and insulting.

There's some really interesting work being done by a Uni (can't remember which one, but I think it might be Leicester) about public perception of crime, and how these days it's massively massively influenced by what they read rather than their actual experiences.

There's no denying that many of the British public believe that crime is through the roof which doesn't really marry up to evidence, especially with belief that violent crime is at unprecedented levels, but if all the algorithm shows is police investigating "hurty words" while ignoring everything else then I can see how.

Well the USA is now throwing young women into the back of vans and deporting them for writing hurty words about Israel. So hopefully the hurty words bs will end soon.

Yes, I personally am too old to be bothered and there is nothing that you or I or anyone else on this site can do about the issues, or do you have the solution? You are just wasting space posting this sensationalist nonsense. Britain will always be changing and evolving, we have always absorbed immigration and adapted to the diversity..It is blinkered opinion and intolerance that is more of a problem
