If companies base themselves in other countries to avoid tax, you could simply apply a higher rate of VAT on their services. So for example Google. Right now even that that is exempt, so you can base yourself in Ireland and not even be taxed for your services in the UK. They make money hand over fist and the country makes nothing from it.
Hasnt Ireland always been sort of a European Tax haven lite though? Most of the game devs I did business with back in the day keep their European headquarters in Ireland (Blizzard, EA) with Rockstar being the notable exception as they keep theirs in England.
They did, but if a company does business in the U.K., they can be made to pay tax in the U.K. It’s just a matter of having the political will to go after them

CFC (Controlled Foreign Company) rules ... if a UK business has a CFC overseas - broadly a subsidiary in a jurisdiction with a significantly lower tax rate than the UK mainstream - then the profits of the CFC can be attributed back to the UK parent annually...
Wheels are already in motion BEPS / OECD pillars 1 and 2 ... partly why Trump has gone for tariffs as a counter ... under these proposals US giants like Amazon, Google etc would be forced into minimum tax contributions in countries in which they do significant business ...
I have posted in this previously, the tories were going to cut more than double the amount from the welfare budget. I have spoken to people at work who get support due to disability(2 out of over 100 in the office) They want to vote for anyone but Labour now, one even thinking Reform has the answer. there are about 800,000 vacancies in the job market. Would be nice if Labour can get those abusing the system into work and ensure those who need it most are given the support. and tax the rich.
I don't think it matters if it's the Tories or Labour, a cut is a cut to your benefit, and I've certainly not seen anyone on this entire site suggest Tories would do a better job. Even GC, although some mock Labour, I don't see them supporting the Tories either, maybe they do support Reform, but that wasn't the crux of your comment. It's like you are looking for excuses for Labour, then making a generalisation about some people on benefits, without giving anything substantive to back it up. What are these 800,000 jobs and why is no one doing them, and are they able to be done by people moved off benefits. I've said on here before, able bodied people, move them out of the office and in to the fields and visa versa, this is how dumb this argument could get. I've not forgotten it was the Tories that set up UC, so they have some ****ing cheek to say they would have cut it by xxx amount, and Labour also have a ****ing cheek, because they use to moan the benefit payments weren't enough, make up your minds ffs. Even the Tory man that set up UC, Ian Duncan Smith suggested at one time UC should be increased by £20 per week (after covid days). So they all talk **** when it suits them. I don't know a single person scrounging off the state, but I have heard it's mostly up North, so there's my generalisation, afterall it's good to be a critic when it don't affect you and I'm not surprised you are one of them lining up to kick the less well off. The only abuse of the system is by the political parties who have been creaming off it for decades. Divide and conquer.

You have some fair points, but I’m a big fan of the welfare state. It’s setup to help those who need it, I want to make sure those most vulnerable get help. Don’t want to kick anyone when they are down. I have no issue with the change in tax rates either that have taken more of my earnings/bonus at 40%. just looking at ways those who use the system when they don’t need it can be got back to work. And if we had a decent living wage, then top up benefits would t be needed….but we have had governments who let companies/corporations get away with this.
Supermarkets love that... get to claim they're socially conscious, and get a tax write-off on what otherwise they would have had to throw in the trash. Although in regards to expired. If it is meat- that's disgusting. If it's a pack of crisps, expired could mean slightly-stale and some people might appreciate that over nothing at all. I hope and suspect food banks use common sense in this case.
