It looks like a lot of teams are going to be in for Dibling this summer, which hopefully will push the price up considerably. Thought we’d get around £30 - £35 million, but with teams like City, Utd, Spurs, Bayern etc bring interested, maybe the club will get closer to the reported £55 million. Hopefully this with a few other sales, will mean we can keep Fernandes?
I think we'd instantly reject offers of 30-35mill TBH. Our asking price in Jan was 55mill apparently - it's not going to drop by 20 million. While he's clearly struggled in a **** team I don't think that will put teams off. His talent and potential is there for all to see.
If you said to me “you can keep Fernandes but you have to lose Dibling”, I’d bite your hand off for that.
We played hard ball with Lavia last time because both Liverpool & Chelsea were in for him. Hopefully it works out the same for Dibling this time.
Main difference is Lavia still had 4 years left on his contract, but yeah the more interest the better for us in driving up the price. Unless Dibling has his heart set on one location and the other teams drop their interest
Apparently we want £100m for Dibling ... Wonder if this is Spors putting his foot down, after he openly admitted he wouldn't have sold the likes of SAA & Meghoma when we did?
Either this is just our way of setting a high valuation to help secure a big fee after negotiations take place, or we genuinely want to keep him to help get us back up and would only sell for a ridiculous fee such as £100m. I strongly suspect it is the former, but either way I am happy with the approach.
100mill is not going to happen but the club are right to set a huge price tag with the amount of interest in him.
TBH I'm enjoying all the outrage from fans of other clubs. How dare little old Southampton set such a big asking price.
I guess if we're setting a £100m price tag, then we are actively expecting and wanting him to stay next season, and only stupidly ridiculous money will tempt us to sell. Good.
It will be very interesting to see how this develops. Telegraph is generally a reliable source so I think we can take this as genuine. So if the club then back down (TBF, that's one thing SR can't be accused of) and sell for 50million it will not go down well with the fans.
I have thought whether we would treat him like Adams/Armstrong and keep him for the season in the hope that he can make the difference between promotion and not. Obviously key difference is nobody was going to be offering £35m+ for Adams or Armstrong and we had already sold about £180m worth of player so adding another 5/10m for either Adams or Armstrong was not really attractive. Sounds like we are just putting our flag in the ground to me. Interesting to do it so publicly though. Club might get flamed now even if they sell him for £50m, which a day ago everyone would’ve said was a great price
Of course, but now they’ve publicly stated £100m then selling for half that is going to annoy some people. Seems a bit foolish in my view to be saying this publicly
