Is that what is causing people to make up stories about Musk being paid millions for the rescue? Any links to anything to substantiate these claims?

I was replying to a post saying he got paid millions. Which he didn’t. Glad to see you agree I was correct. There are ****s everywhere, most of them failures, but I wouldn’t mind a **** buying City if they had his money.

Anyway back to leccy cars, if anyone has one I believe they will have to pay road tax from April a figure of £190 has been banned about but not sure if that is for 6 or 12 months.
Apparently no matter when your current tax is due to run out it is possible to the tax now at the current rate. Heard of one who's tax expires in Sept and has renewed for another year and now is taxed till Sept 2026. Another who put his vehicle on Sorn for 1 day then renewed for a year.

Of course that’s the reason, but safety is still a reasonable excuse given they’re not safe enough to be allowed on our roads!

He didn’t (or not as far as I’m aware) but given Space X has received around £40Bn in grants, Govt contracts etc Im sure he can cover a few hundred million.

The use of TDS is a pretty lazy shorthand by the way. Not your usual style.
Suggesting people who oppose him are deranged is a bit meh. No problem if people can explain why they support him, or why those opposing him are wrong, of course

Oppose billionaires in this day and age, but that's the system, not him. I don't support him, I support 'some' of his products, as most of his current opposers did 5 years ago. Just laughable that his products 'turn' **** as hid politics supposedly do. Be interesting to see if his politics changes again in five years time and what he does with his wealth.

Zeekr are offering a 10 year manufacturers warranty/200000km here now on their new range on all parts of the car... Five is standard, some offer seven. That's a confident statement in the durability of the vehicle, especially in the climate here. Basically guaranteed for the lifetime of the car, apart from tyres and brakes.

Yes this is true - I’ve just retaxed mine, even though it wasn’t due to run out till Oct 2025. You need to do it before the end of March - you shouldn’t need to SORN, just retax early. As you click through, just ignore the bit that says ‘as you are retaxing early you may end up paying more’, because you don’t - more at £0 is still £0. My original renewal was April 25, so I tried it for the first time Oct 24 to test it worked, then set a reminder for March 25 to do it again. So in effect an extra year at £0. The Sept 26 you heard about can’t be correct - you can only tax for a max 12 months.

It’s only £10 for a new EV after April, I think. £195 for one you already own.

There will have to be a complete overhaul of how vehicles are taxed when the income from tax on petrol peters out.

Hopefully there will be some grown up conversation on what replaces it. Highly doubt that though.

    Wishful thinking <laugh>

Politicians couldn't have a grown up conversation about what to have for dinner.

I've heard there are only 3 real options.
    1, Increase road tax
2, Pay a charge per mile driven
3, Pay a tax on the electricity, this is easily done on 3rd party charges but your own domestic charger will tell the electricity company how much electric went in to you car and not the household

Tolls or a mileage charge are the usual answer. Mileage charge is fairer and avoids a lot of arguments as to where the tolls are placed.

I have no intention of replacing my petrol car with an EV in the future.
