I can imagine. My Uncle was the bridge master when it opened and told me a few stories.
Sadly 3 years ago a friend jumped off the bridge. He has never been found.

I thought the one who served Rodney Trotter was a bit obnoxious though

I thought I’d put this on here as I didn’t want to start a thread as such . So in a week when Paddy Hemingway RAF pilot dies and gets attention for his incredible exploits - the BBC have to put an article on celebrating the work of some albeit very intelligent determined women at Bletchley Park etc.
I have no issue with them having limelight but I’ve seen this a number of times with the Beeb not ‘allowing’ this focus for men being left the main topic . The day after Prostate Cancer health day , the Beeb put on a Breast Cancer article / talk - they are both equally serious so there’s no need to ‘balance’ anything for gender equality or detract from one with another . Just realised it should have gone on ‘ what grinds your gears’
    This does !

Re the bridge tolls. I wonder what adverse effect it might have on traffic flow coming off the bridge on North Bank . When people have been paying by card its bad enough, imagine people just coming through and increasing the wait at the roundabout. I spoke to a fella at Highways a while ago and he said the reason there is grid lock there is the the bit of road from the roundabout to the Bridge is owned by by Humber Bridge Board, the road from the a63 up to the roundabout by Highways England and the road from Beverley by ERYCC (something like) and apparently they could never get their heads together and agree a workable solution to the gridlock at peak hours.

They used to let scooter and biker rallies go through for a quid when it was more , just for speed of throughput , those cameras will have to be good I could see them doubling up maybe ?

After a successful campaign organised by the local branch of the motorcycle action group (MAG) powered two wheelers are able to use the bridge free of charge.

its pretty embarrassing that some people in the city centre in 2025 look dirtier and scruffier than folks in 1911

I read a book about the history of Hull about 3 years ago and it does mention that Hull was at its peak just before the 1st world war .
It stated that the decline started after it

Probably due to the fact we fought that and the next war with the countries we had the best trades links with.
