Agreed. It was a small sample size (Watson's championship games) but I thought he looked electric after finding his feet.
He is a serious talent for me. He was dominant in the u21s, which is where Brighton were watching, and came in to the first team and adapted quickly.
Yeh Watson is going to be a great player. I don't think he's as good NOW as some do, but he's going to be brilliant. I just hope he isn't going to a club like Brighton a year or two too soon.
Ultimately if Watson is sold for a good fee then that should let us buy a couple higher standard players (or half of one if we are in the prem) and improve us. I'd obviously prefer to have more local lads in the team but its not like we are lacking them at the moment.
Whilst great to say we have 2 very good wingers on the left it’s counter-productive for one of them to sit on the bench every week. Cashing in on one makes sense imo. We could sign a very good right winger with the funds
I don't like the idea of losing a top tier player but you make sense. Especially if his head has been turned.
I think he’s got great potential mate reminds me a lot of Clarke already the way he drives forward, draws fouls, not afraid to take the shot. Got loads of confidence which is important especially for a winger. But we have Mundle who’s just as good, albeit Watson has a few years on him but still both very good players fighting for that position. But if we had someone of their quality on both sides we’d be a better team
He’s a good talent that’s for sure but the hype of his ability for the here and now was way premature. sure it was reported he would go into Brighton 21s and be loaned out. I’m sure I remember reading that
Lad who gets in the gym goes to all the u21 games and he’s always maintained he was overhyped a bit. I said he always looks a cut above on the highlights, normally in and amongst the goals and he said aye but that’s all he’ll do then go missing for loads of the game. No idea how true that is mind I’ve probably watched one full half of the u21s in the last year, I just check the highlights out occasionally. Looked good when he stepped up for us though.
I think think that is the nature of hype. Trying to predict where players will end up. Watson has everything you would look for in a young player to justify hype. When they have first team exposure it moves from hype to evidence I have coached in academies for years. Hype is our language. It is about seeing the ingredients that will ultimately make a top player and refining those as coaches. We talk for hours over cups of tea about players with that elite talent. It is evident in many cases. For me Watson has been on that trajectory for a few years. No over hyping, just a lot of serious judges seeing an elite talent.
Be surprised at that unless we’re offering peanuts when we still have Pembele who plays both RB and CB on a 5 year contract
Forgot all about him, just had a look and doesn’t look like he’s pulling up any trees out on loan wouldn’t be shocked if he was moved on
Talking about loan players, Ba has made no impact at Dunkerque in Ligue 2. Played 2 minutes as a sub in his first game then hasn't even been in the squad for the last 5 games. Shame as he looked like a very talented lad.
Frustrating because he was a talent at PSG, I was excited for him signing thought it was good business. Maybe just never recovered from the ACL injury. Did he get this pre-season with us or was he loaned out early doors? Never know could come back and have a decent pre-season I suppose
I really liked Ba but they always say the difference between some of these talented lads going to the top is their attitude. Could just be something as simple as that he’s never looked like a player who’d pull trees up and especially with the way football is going you need to run a lot unless you’re mega talented and the team can carry you
There has to be something going on with him. Badly went back overs and couldnt get anywhere near the u21s team
