Is he the best right back you’ve seen in our shirt?

    If not, who is?

Possibly but we’ve had a few good ones. David Craig, Irving Nattrass, Aaron Hughes, John Anderson

He’s had a couple of poor games for us, but usually good and reliable.
Above all, he believed in us, and was the catalyst for our resurgence.

Oh yeah!!! Don’t drink wine on a school night kids. I almost threw Pistone in.

To be fair I’ve posted before about how in the context of a lot of things he’s one of the most important signings we’ve ever made. Last year or so has had his struggles, not least because of his personal life, but I would agree that he’s the best RB we’ve had. Sorry if the facetiousness didn’t work.

Actually the more I think about this the more ridiculous it is.

He was immense on Sunday. Without a doubt he had a cracking game. But let's be real here, Dan Burn could count on the hand with a finger missing how many good games he's had in the last 18 months. He's been ****ing ****. His marking is non existent, he constantly cuts in way too narrow leaving his winger miles of space. His set pieces have been mocked on here regularly. He doesn't score and that purple patch when Miggy scored a few was his best patch here n all.

That first season (Survival one) he was injured for most of it once he signed.

2nd season (his first full one) he was good without a doubt.

3rd season he was utter ****e to the point he had the captaincy removed from him at the end of it.

4th season he's been largely unused and replaced.

So no, he's not our best ever right back. Not even close.

Not like we've had loads of amazing right backs so he might be but it isn't saying much, he started off great and i'm glad he's played well in the semi and the final, but boy was he absolutely shocking the second half of last season, he's been a good player for us, but not more than that, could have been a great but last season means he's in the good category for me.

    Are we all forgetting Perchinho?

No but seriously, Tripps has been an amazing leader and a catalyst for our initial transfers and change in form after the takeover. Legend status.

But can he be compared to the likes of David Craig and Irving Nattrass as best ever? Very hard to say, different football eras. I'll have to default to the knowledge of Trev and Hung on that one.

Trippier had one good season. The off field things such as being a catalyst for other signings etc has no bearing on him being our best ever right back.

Obviously I can't go back as far as a few others on here but personally think all our better right backs have been of the same quality for us at varying points of their time with us. The only difference is how long they kept this quality up for. And even that's pretty much all the same except Barton.

Think he has been a solid defender but he is now adapting his game to a loss of pace, hence the backing off the winger, coming inside more. He is not getting forward as much as he used to either. What he does bring is a great mentality, which was essential in the semifinal and also in the final. He is a real leader.

Livramento is essentially ready to replace him full time (he had an excellent game on the left at the weekend) skills-wise but he doesn't yet have the mentality yet to dominate that right side.

I would rate Debuchy higher than Trippier. Thought he was a class right-back.
