Thought Brum targetted Daws second half and we just about managed to deal with their threat down our LHS. Gulsacsi save from Burke's header brilliant - thought that was the equaliser.
My mate will probably take full credit for Gulasci's form turn around. While waiting for FIFA 12 to be released at Tesco St Stephens we saw him buying a house plant. This was a couple of games after he was ousted by Basso. He went over shook his hand and said "I wish you all the best for the remainder of the season! And I mean that" or something to that effect. Gulasci thanked him, and he obviously waited for his chance to thank my mate for his faith while all around were calling him ****e! Thats my take on it anyway
Agreed on that point for sure, that header at the end that went narrowly wide from a free-kick, he literally didn't move an inch once the ball was kicked until it was past his post. I'd like to say he knew it was wide but i think he got caught in two minds whether to come for the ball or not, as a result he was positioned awfully when the attacker headed it and we were lucky he missed. Definitely a much improved performance though and he did well with the header straight after we scored but i still want a better keeper in january (or a cure for tendonitis)
**** me you just can't please some people. That performance was top drawer. It wasn't flawless but then again does such a thing exist? The answer to that is no. Koren gave the ball away three times in the first five minutes. Evans wasted plenty of passes, as did McKenna. Rosenior was caught out of position twice........... I could go on but won't. All the above named players had great games last night( as did ALL the lads) and yes they made mistakes. Gulasci had a superb game and yes he made mistakes. Why can't people just give credit where it's due without having to have a sideways dig at the lad? If Basso had put in a performance like that some on here would literally be knocking one out.
The comment about him being stuck to his line is fair comment. The worst example was the free-kick that looped towards the 6 yard line towards the end. That is 100% a 'keepers ball and he didn't come for it which led to a panicked clearance. We are lucky it didn't cost us, it did against Burnley. His saves were superb but he's got a way to go. He's a young guy though, he's learning all the time.
It's a good sign that we have to fish around for who was the one who didn't pull up trees all game. Keep it up!!
Thats the problem - the lad is only 21 - very very young for a keeper. That said Bo chucked one in for us last night - a mistake by a keeper gets so noticed whilst misplaced passes by outfield players can always be redeemed by others around them.
I'd guess he's benefitted from McDonagh's coaching (BTW has he gone to join MON at Sunderland yet?) and, from what's been said, Basso is doing some GK coaching now.
Yes and thats why clubs who find a gem stick with them through thick and thin if they possibly can. Very good keepers are like hens teeth.
The lad played well last night, and looks to be growing as a keeper. I am with Tigerhull on Basso though. Not so much as he is our own keeper, but because Basso is a better all round keeper. The young lad needs to work on his crosses, and his distribution could be better, but still a decent last few bgames.
Made some good saves have to agree. However he still looks dodgey, im still not convinced. His kicking is terrible, every goal kick or free kick he took went out for a throw in. Also, for the save he made against Wade Elliott, he started to come out then hessitated, wanted to go back realised it was too late, then ran back at him again. Not convinced.
Is that one where if he'd stayed on his line they'd have scored and if he came flying out the striker would have just 'round him and scored? If it is the one I'm thinking of then in the end it was a good save. He narrowed the angle and didn't commit himself, good keeping in my book.
But it's the opposite. He's had one bad game in a big match and since then everyone is desperate for him to make some sort of mistake so they can get on his back. He's had a lot more good games than bad ones. I really don't think this consistency issue is there at all. It's all just regurgitated nonsense from the Leeds game, since then he's hardly put a foot wrong but everything is scutinised and mistakes are invented even when they don't exist. He's still young and obviously has a lot to learn, but we're fine sticking with him for now.
Maybe, but there was one time last night when Chester was chasing a ball played into the channel and had an attacker behind him and Gulacsi gave him a very clear shout of 'Deal with it Chez.' He did and the danger was cleared. That was a particularly quiet point in the match which is why I heard it so clearly, and we obviously have no idea how well he is communicating the rest of the time. But it can't be as bad as is made out.
Exactly, I mean me thinking his communication is poor is just me wanting to have a go! His communication has been excellent and there have been no nervy moments with Gulacsi in goal
