I would add to that our loss to Palace in the league after beating Liverpool 3-0 back in 2020. 3 points there would have changed the club's recent history.
Don't care that he played the bulk of his career in lower leagues - he played the bulk of it with us and he was one of our best ever. A true Watford legend. https://www.watfordgold.org.uk/cata...e-1970-fa-cup-semi-final-by-dawn-somers-2003?
A match that pre-dates me. I'm not sure the scorer was Elton's uncle - think they were cousins Matchday Memories: On This Day 1962 – Roy (Sir Elton’s Uncle) Stings Hornets Again (After 82 Mins.)!! : Coventry City Former Players Association || CCFPA
And he missed three sitters. Luther could afford to. He was always in the right place at the right time - even when he shouldn't have been.
If I remember rightly he also had a second minute goal disallowed - a header which appeared to have crossed the line before the keeper punched it away. Or was that one of the sitters you mentioned?
I couldn't get to my usual spot on the Vic terrace, so was there in front of the Main stand. please log in to view this image

I was there, and at Swindon and Bournemouth, in those days this was The Holy Grail only bettered by thrashing Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup, a game we could have won by three or four goals at least

I used to enjoy the whole experience of away days - the drive to the ground with mates, a couple of pints beforehand coupled with something to eat, the craic, the match whether we won lost or drew, a few post match pints - then we'd drive back to Watford, dump the car and take our designated driver out for a few pints to say thank you. For this match I have no recollection of any of that - only the match itself. The build up had been intense, expectations were high, the game was really high quality given it was only a Third Division match, and both the goal and the full time whistle were joyous moments I hadn't experienced before in football. It was the game that convinced me we were going up as champions.
