Yes and no tbh. We don't want another Pardew situation with 17 LB's in the squad but in fairness, in this example, you are right - it is the quality that matters and Huijsen looks like a LCB that could go to the top and be around for 10-15 years or so. If the £50m release clause is correct that's a good deal considering what we were quoted for Guhei in the summer. I'd like Scalvini personally for the RCB - think there's a deal to be had there as he's been out injured most of the season - Cruciate and he's got an arm problem atm as well but he'll be a top player as well. A (further) RCB, Scalvini, Huijsen and Botman would be an immense set of CB's to have in the next year with Tino and Hall either side and Trafford behind them... Botman would be the oldest at 26 by about 4/5 years in that group as well so the longevity would be insane as well.
Why does the order matter? If they get two cbs this summer it won't make any difference. It's just odd to assume they can do it in any particular order because deals can be there one minute and gone the next. If they can land a big player they won't think oh we need to do the right side first... They'll take the right players as and when they can. Essentially you could miss out on Huijsen and still not get the right sides one either. I have complete confidence in the club at this point.
We've won a trophy, so it's pointless even worrying about anything now. It's like having hotels on Mayfair and Park Lane and simply waiting for the success.
The order matters because there is a budget and a set amount of players we can register. We have Schar and Lacselles on the right and Botman and Burn on the left. Likewise we have Jacob Murphy and no one on the right wing. Do we want 3 LCB's and only Murphy on the right wing or relying on Lascelles going into Europe next season? So there has to be priorities no? Also just to point out that we need 4 homegrown (*) players in Europe and only have 3 currently (can only register 24 players in that case) so that's another factor in who we can buy/register to play : GK: Pope, Dubravka, Odysseas?, Gillespie*>, Ruddy> RB: Trippier?, Tino, Krafth RCB: Schar>, Lascelles> LCB: Botman, Burn LB: Hall, Targett RCM: Bruno, Longstaff* CM: Tonali, Miley* LCM: Joelinton, Willock RW: Murphy LW: Gordon, Barnes CF: Isak, Wilson>, Oslua And then players out of contract (>) and those not needed//likely or want to leave (?) - Gillespie is interesting as he fills a HG space as a third keeper but out of contract this summer and if he leave it would be 2 homegrown players and only 23 available to register for Europe! Just to note Schar and Lascelles are both out of contract - I know there's been talk of a new deal for Fabian but can't find confirmation of a new deal yet so we could have no RCB bar maybe Krafth Building a squad is a balancing act and as I say I agree, he would be a great buy and, yes you need to strike when the opportunity is there but I'm not sure a left sided centre half is a bigger priority that a RW or a right sided CB so the question is do you want to blow the budget on a position that is covered and with some quality to the depth currently or focus on other areas?
We'll have to agree to disagree mate because I don't think the market works that way. I'm sure we'll have a good summer though either way.
Ahahhahaa - no thanks! https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...k-JNLdo1u1W2dIt3iA_aem_vyXDf0w-vVXXDZEW_XdBMQ
Gillespie isn’t Home grown, he wasn’t here long enough under 21. Miley is still under 21 so doesn’t count in domestic or European squad. We actually only have Longstaff
Swear Gillespie was here as a youth player? Maybe it's between 18-21 but that would be harsh to not say he isn't homegrown.
Huijsen is actually right footed even though he has regularly played on the left. A two footed player would be an excellent addition
Cannot fathom why we were trying to spunk £60m on Guehi when Huijsen went from Juve for £18m. Is it really that difficult?
