82 points last year, what this year?

We simply didn't need to be much better this season.

    That's the breaks.

I'm not sure what bearing this has on the post you quoted. Care to explain?

Just saying this year we get a title (probably) and last year we would not have with this level of performance.

Who is to say that letting players go for a fee and replacing them would not have generated roughly the same level of performance in the league?

Nobody can really say if lfc and Hughes have a master plan just yet but they look to be batting a 1000 here on completely ****ing up.

From here the most likely outcome of the season is a slow grind to the end with a title and bus parade at some point hopefully before the last day.

Then on the final day we will be waving bye to trent, vvd and salah.

Then all summer people will be demanding signings.

Then at some point to a new lfc team will take to the field either in preseason or as late as the opening day and only then will the master plan be revealed.

It's not unreasonable to expect the have a plan of some sort.

We've been fairly fortunate that noone else has been great this year.

We still had to do our job but we are where we are and they should be beside us not 12 points down.

The fact they are not there makes our run in easier that's all.

I don't disagree with that at all. We've been good. No one else has.

Nobody, it's as possible an outcome as any other. And that's the whole point, it's all pure speculation, as is the rest of your post.
I really don't see the point in constantly trying to predict the future when we have little or nothing to go on.
Is a slow grind "the most likely outcome"? Maybe the ridiculous February schedule drained the players and they'll now recover a little for the more manageable run in.
What is wholly predictable is the range of speculation from fans. Those who are generally optimistic see positive outcomes, those who are mostly pessimistic fear disaster, and those who are generally critical see fault in everything.

Points totals after 29 games for the eventual winners over the last 6 years:
    64, 64, 70, 68, 82, 71.
The only anomaly is our title winning year.
So far, we're fully on course for title winners regardless of the performance of others.

I really don't get this "we're only top because others are worse" stuff.
For one, that's true every year, and really it's just the bleating of rivals trying to do us down. I see no reason to join them.

Tedious isn't it. "if we were better than you this season then we'd have finished top"

    No ****.

Who said we were only top cos anything never mind "others worse"

    Not me.

Might I point out on the lfc stats page the chart of points gaps from 1st to 2nd after 28 games.

I clearly stated that we have done what we have done. The gap we have is because others have not done what they had done before. It's a massive gap for this stage of the season.

    Those are facts.

Last year we had a long slow disappointing end to klopps reign as the team just ran out of steam and injuries showed

We got the league cup then lost the others one after another but at 28 games gone the gap was 0.

It ended up as about 9 points or so by the end.

This year the gap is 12 and we have done out business. Others have not.

So if that's tedious for you then tough ;)

The title race is all but over. All there is now is worriers who are acting like Newcastle fans in the last 10minutes on Sunday.

"We're only top because others are worse" is true for every season in existence. That's what defines who is top.

There's not one season in all of existence where "if someone else had been better and scored more points than the champions they would have won" is not true. We're winning because we got more than anyone else- same as every season.

At the same time, it's a bit of a luxury to be confident of almost certainly winning the title as early as early march- and it's because of no challengers that we can breathe easy and not have too stressful a finish to the season. We have had it easy this season, not saying we wouldn't have won if we played last season's teams, but we wouldn't have won so easily and had such a stress-free spring if we had people chasing us.

What will you consider as exciting as a 1 gsme a week run in with 12 point lead.

We will be counting down until we inevitably win.

    No drama.

    No twists and turns.

    No big final day.

It's entirely possible we go win 3 or 4 on the bounce before spurs game and it areally all over and there nothing even on the last 3 or 4 games.

That like grinding home in 3rd last year except we get a big pot.

    It's already won.

It's the media/ rival fan angle that's been pushed for the last couple of weeks. Basically, trying to dilute the achievement of the inevitable pressure title coming out way. We've been brilliant most of the season and fully deserved the title.

This season we haven't been playing anywhere near our best either so the argument is void.

They tried to do it in '20 by claiming an * on it because of Covid - even though we were out of sight already well before the pandemic kicked in.

I see Nevin is jumping on the bandwagon on the Beeb, saying "perhaps I'm being harsh" but still slyly getting his little digs in.

Sorry are you suggesting that if we win it with 3/4 games left then it will be a disappointment?

    Grinding home in 3rd gear…
or another way is doing a victory lap and slowing down to wave at the fans

I wouldn't use the word "grind" with its obvious negative connotations. It doesn't have to be slow and arduous.
If it does come about that it's all over with a few games left I'd maybe call it a procession.
