Bit harsh calling me a Maggot! (That was indeed my post). I have been called much worse though so I'll take it Anyhoo, hope you're all well. On a different note you're pretty much a shoo in for the lottery of the play-offs (automatic isn't out of the question but is seeming to have drifted a bit) so good luck if you get to Wembley yourselves as it would be genuinely good to have a derby back - it's been too long (a fault of both our teams).
If, as the Mags always claim, the Fairs Cup was actually the UEFA Cup and a major European trophy ... ... why does Joe Harvey only have a snack bar, in the Gallowgate End, named after him and not a statue.
Been a while since I noticed you posting mate, I thought Sombrero might've popped in as well. I was messaging my Mag relatives yesterday who reminded me that one of their lot went to Wembley for the Cup Final. What was unusual was that she was a 15 year old girl and went, on the train from Central Station on her own ... ... what was worse, it was 1955 and her elder brother was expecting to go. But they only got one ticket, that was allocated to her, and she wouldn't give it up "You can go the next time," she told him.
Yeah I've not been over here so much recently, no real reason tbh though I did notice that once I stopped posting on the Sunderland board as often you started to do a lot better! Logically I know I'm not a bad luck omen but I wouldn't blame people for telling me to **** off again. I really didn't like the whole Charlie Methven and Stewart Donald regime and I always felt they were chancers who I didn't trust at all (as opposed to Ellis Short who I felt really wanted to do well with Sunderland but just didn't appoint the correct people to positions below him). As a Newcastle fan I'm very wary of calling out things at Sunderland which I think are **** (and usually I'm a pretty positive kind of poster to be honest, as you know I do actually just want Sunderland in the Premiership and competing) so kind of got in the habit of biting my tongue. I think that's right by the way, it's not my role to come over and start taking a swipe at your owners (though I think my concerns - which were shared by many of your own fans - were pretty well founded). It's good to see that it's working out for KLD as I wasn't sure he was going to be able to make it work but whether this season works out or not you're heading in the right direction and it's easy to take that for granted, it feels a matter of time before you'll be back up again. As regards the cup win for us. If Sunderland won it then we all know the Newcastle fans would be calling it a nothingness of a trophy - that's what rivals are for and it's a comment that isn't without merit. I'm sure you'll all understand that personally I don't mind, I'm 43 and had reconciled the idea I was never going to see my team win anything in my lifetime - I'd have accepted the Charity Shield!! So I'm pretty happy. ps. Chopwell!! I know it well. I went to Hookergate Comp and most of my best mates were from Chopwell, High Spen or Highfield. I'm from Rowlands Gill myself. Spent many, many teenage days drinking in the Hotel and the Top Club.
I called into Rowlands Gill, Middleton Avenue, after the Sheff Wed match, away, and took them out for lunch at The Royal Oak, Medomsley. I'd have taken the other pair, from Mill Road, Chopwell, but they weren't well ... ... lovely people all of them, despite their poor choice of team And yes, you're right about KLD. Despite what the short sighted, and narrow minded, believe he's an absolute Godsend to the club. He's probably quadrupled the value of SAFC in a few years which is absolutely phenomenal after the state Donald left it in.
Wrong. Saudi Full strength Arsenal [twice] and Liverpool beaten on the way and European qualification guaranteed. But keep telling yourself that. You're dying inside and it is tremendous.
The only reason we’re dying inside is because of how insufferable it is! You were, when spending half a billion pounds, likely to win a trophy. I’m just glad it’s the smallest one available to you and not one of the other 2! Much like the FA cup loss to you last year, it’s “ meh” to me! The rivalry is gone as a result of your ownership.
They’ve had the celebrate phase, they’re now into gloat phase (even though we’re little old Sunlun and not worth much) and then they’ll go back to needy phase. This time though others may see them for what they are the 70 year wait is over so there’ll be no neutrals feeling sorry for them anymore.
Bit of a stretch that, lol. I think the majority of SAFC fans are probably slightly disappointed just because it would have been funny if you'd spent all those millions and failed again. The fact is, though, your club sold its soul to achieve a modicum of success. The general concensus here is basically "congrats, I guess, but we'd rather not." It seems a lot of your fans are happy with that trade off, which is quite sad imo, but fair enough. Enjoy it
Not a chance. I didn’t want you to win but you did, comfortably. My Mag mates all got the enjoy your weekend and the crack, messages beforehand, no hope you win mind that would be bonkers. And congratulations after. Anyway off to Benidorm early afternoon 4 Sunderland season ticket holders and a staunch Mag. That qunt can keep his gob shut anawl.
'State Owned team win cup shocker!' If you were ever gonna turn into a successful club, as a SAFC fan, this was the best way for yous to go about it. Theres a 'meh' feeling to it. If yous had fluked a one off trophy under Ashley I'd have been devastated, I wouldnt have been able to sleep. But this doesnt hurt nowhere near as much. Whats sickening is, is that football continues to mutate where it is at the point that the media and footballing world are fawning over clubs like yourself, Man City, Forest, Chelsea (a few years back). A few years ago, when yous were on our side of the fence, yous were beating on about the state of the game. Corrupt, too much money etc etc. It was the one thing the fans of both our clubs agreed about. I know through some friends and because I used to venture onto your board alot before your takeover. But now seeing the national/local media and your supporters embracing the game and success whilst yous sit on the other side of the fence. Dont get me wrong, there is still a rivalry there. But its different. I used to enjoy seeing your supporters and club suffer at times because you were 100% Newcastle United. As a SAFC supporter it was my job to. But there was still the begrudging respect there. Now what has been added into the mix is that I'd want see your club suffer because you are Saudi state owned and become one of the ****ty beacons representing everything that is wrong in the game. That has sort of taken over the local rivalry side quite a bit. Which is sad really. But one thing I am content with. No matter how much success Saudi Arabia gives your club, I will always feel happier and more comfortable supporting Sunderland. I would like us to 'win at all costs'. But to roll over and get our bellys tickled by Saudi Arabia is a bit too far for me.
How comes the authority's has allowed their trophy parade to be held on a Saturday we are playing at home (Millwall)?
And here’s another … … dying because Newcastle won a cup, dear me. This is the message I sent to my Mag relatives, ‘Good luck to Newcastle today, I’ll be watching ‘ My message afterwards, don’t include yourself in this, ‘I’m very pleased for all the decent NE people who’ve waited a lifetime … that’s as far as I’m prepared to go xxx You see, it’s possible to have some banter without being a boring humourless dick … … you’ve somehow managed to be a loser even when you’ve won
please log in to view this image I have wine goblets bigger than that … … and still 70 years since they won the big boys cup
Another sad thing is, is that this and the future generation of supporters are being brainwashed by the media and footballing world that the current state of play is normal. I have some sort of sympathy for them because they dont know any different. Its the generations who do know different but still embrace the current set up whilst happily pulling the ladder up and sodding the rest that I've lost respect for. I mean, they basically changed the rules so that nothing like a Saudi takeover can happen again. That in itself, if i was a town supporter, would leave me uncomfortable and worriedly questioning how iffy the owners of my club are. But stopping it happening again is a bit like closing the door after the horse has bolted. Oh yes, rule change is great for the game, great for the rest of us, but its even greater for the Saudi's. Its like somebody coming up to me, giving me £1 million, then saying, 'now mind, in future, I'm not allowed give any money to anybody else mind.' I'm hardly gonna say 'Bugger!' am I? Once Man City and Newcastle got these owners, and it was realised that it was just wrong, then surely it would either be a case of somehow coming up with rules forcing the owners to sell the clubs (difficult, but not impossible (see Chelsea)), or allowing all clubs the 'opportunity' to be state owned. Changing things mid stream just closes up shop as far as competitiveness is concerned. I'm pleased it cant happen again, but its hardly fair is it? Modern football eh?
