I'd say we have a chance against anyone after what we did to Chelsea, Arsenal (twice) and Liverpool in winning this cup. But really, the main thing is it will vastly improve our chances of keeping our best players and signing more of that calibre if we're back in the CL.
The worm will turn for a few as soon as we lose a couple games. We all know who they are. I've wanted Howe to be eventually replaced essentially since the first league cup defeat and it was exacerbated by our pretty mediocre CL performance (albeit a historic win against PSG). I essentially believed that Howe would never get us over the line and turned into a trophy winning club and also said winning a trophy had to be the utmost priority, CL is a bonus. I've always said I understand external factors have never helped Howe, but in a lot of games we have not helped ourselves and when Newcastle are "off it" we look appalling and lack the creativity to think our way out of a problem. But getting a trophy win in the manner we have, as in, beating Chelsea, Brentford, Arsenal twice and Liverpool in a final has shown that Howe CAN win us trophies, it wasn't a fluke. So we need to instead focus our future disapproval at a lack of investment in key areas of the pitch and give our trophy winning manager all the support we can until essentially HE chooses he no longer wishes to manage Newcastle United anymore. Furthermore, winning a cup puts Howe in a group and there are very few managers who can actually say they have won a trophy, finding someone fans would consider an acceptable replacement just got much more difficult.
We can actually win the Europa Conference so I wouldn't be arsed about being in that for a season. Could be quite an easy second trophy in two years.
We're in Europe next year so anything from now is a bonus. I think over the coming years, given how many places there are for English clubs then we're likely to be in Europe more often than we're not. As such I'll always want us to get CL and the money and prestige which goes along with it (and the fact it'll mean we've had a better season) but never mind if we end up in a smaller European competition as we've got a much better chance of silverware. Win-win as far as I'm concerned.
The Guimareas isn't a leader notion went up in flames too on Sunday. The pundits were like wow seeing him rally the players and then he lifted a trophy.
There's some arseholes out there that don't like him celebrating tackles.. Sorry but that's exactly what clubs need to with trophies... Passion.
Yeah, loved that little bit of class. The 3 captains, one from the Ashley times who stuck it out, one from the initial takeover who believed in the project and the young one for the future.
Yeah the old someone's doing something to me I don't like, so I'll mock them mental gymnastic isn't it.
Yes I agree with this. Howe has given me a headache. But I cannot doubt his ability now. Because that final management was absolutely the best I’ve seen. And this is why I will honestly back the **** off when it comes to his ability. I actually don’t mind admitting I was wrong and if it pleases people I will hand my head in shame. Until we lose against Brentford….. nah just kidding.
Barnes did well.. Tbh they all did. Big Dan Burn though.. Just wow! So many times I've seen other clubs just have this player that turns up when it matters and just own a game, but never here... Until Yesterday.
He was the very best 10/10. No one should really get that score. But he absolutely bossed it. I also lost count of the times that Trippier under pressure headed the ball back to Pope. I don’t think a single player played badly. And that’s all down to Howe getting the up and drilled for the game. It was the perfect performance. Salah didn’t even get a shot or cross in the whole game. Joelinton though. He activated beast mode.
