He's just a very poor footballer. Sometimes what he does looks almost competent, but at other times it's laughable. He tried a lot, though.

He reminds me of Seb Polter - but without the humour.

Totally agree with that strolls. Me and my lad spend more time laughing when watching him. He's like one of those old wind up toys that takes time to get to full speed.

We have a few players who try hard but just don't have the quality. Frey being an example, Smyth another. If Smyth wasn't fast then he wouldn't even be playing professional football but you can't doubt his effort.

Excellent cross by Smyth for the goal yesterday and we are miles better when he starts than Spurs loanee experiment.

Yes a great cross, he can usually produce 1 in 50 or so

Two weeks until the next game. Hopefully we'll have injured players ready to return for Stoke away.

I really think you've got that wrong. In a team that generally struggles to create anything, he is one of the few players who consistently makes things happen across games. You feel that with him on the pitch, there's always a chance.

You say he manages to place the ball onto an attackers head or foot 1 in 10 times. Not many of our players bother to get in the box! There's only so much someone like Smyth can do. The other players need to step up as well.

Smyth gets the ball into the box. He takes on players and gets passed them quite consistently, comparatively. It may not look pretty, but a large proportion of chances we create come through him and his persistence. Him probably more than anyone.

I really don't see what there is to complain about with him. Take him out of the team and almost nothing is happening.

I'd rather be complaining about Chair who has lots of talent in terms of ball control but has no game sense, vision or footballing brain and wastes so many potential chances.

What was weird about Saturday was I could count on one hand how many times we got the ball to the foot of Saito or Smith. Strange tactic.

I think the point that I'm trying to make is, that if Smyth is one of our best attacking threats then we are a long, long way from achieving anything in this league. I like the lad, he gives everything but there's a distinct lack of quality and if that's the standard we aim for or pin our hopes on, there's going to be some mediocre seasons at best. He's not alone, I just use him as an example because he gives %100 where as others don't seem to at times.

I rate the guy more than most do admittedly but he forces teams back a bit as there’s a chronic lack of pace in the team without him. Also far more sound defensively than our other wide players. Certainly against the better teams I’d always have him out there. Certainly when the alternative is babysitting a child from Spurs.

Clive seems to agree with you...

"Paul Smyth, much maligned by sections of the QPR support but showing exactly why he’s important to this team and a better bet than Yang Min-Hyeok on both sides of the ball here,"

Fair enough, it's all about opinions. I just feel that if this is the standard of player that we pin our hopes on then our hopes will be mid table at the very best
