Credit to him he’s done well to win the League Cup, but needs to kick on now. Saudis won’t be happy with one or two league cups in 5/6/7 seasons. Also a bit early to be calling for him to have a statue after one league cup though. He is doing very well this season on the whole and maybe, just maybe, I was a bit premature to be calling for his head after crashing out the FA Cup, Tbh he’s probably ahead of schedule again this year and if he can qualify for the champions league again he’ll be doing very well. NEEDS to be backed again in the summer to add quantity to the quality we have, not squad filler.
Although I support the Toon I'm from Bournemouth. We all had a prem team down here when I was younger and I was fortunate to have some connection to Newcastle so escaped the trap of the cartel. I follow the cherries too and saw up close what Eddie did for the club and the town. If it wasn't for him AFCB may not exist today let alone be a decent prem side. I knew when he signed for the Toon he would be a good fit because of the dedication he would give to the club and the city. Love the bloke, he and we deserve this one.
He's done enough to see him through to the end of the season with no complaints for/from me. After that though... It depends as I said before if he is backed in the window. In that we made a profit on trading this year, revenue's are up, and I'd imagine Sela Stack is going to be another uplift in next years accounts, plus more commercial deals as winners of a cup/in Europe etc. there should be a wedge to spend. If we bring in 3 top players (RCB, RW and GK) and some upgrades to the rest of the squad he'll be judged on how that's going in the CL or EL (that we are now guaranteed btw) otherwise I think if it is similar to last year he'll get more slack from the fans - myself included... TBH I'd quite like to be in the EL next season so we can try and win another trophy, that was quite fun - through all the crying!
Europa Conference apparently - sure it use to be the Europa League! I saw something earlier in regards to Europe: "So, to run it down. The top five are in the Champions League, while sixth and seventh go into the Europa League via league position or winning the FA Cup. Then eighth, ninth and tenth earn either Champions League or Europa League qualification through winning their European tournament - leaving eleventh place for that final Conference League spot." That would be amazing for our on-going co-efficient rating and an extra space in the CL going forwards.
And the league results went our way at the weekend with City and Chelsea dropping points! Guess it shows how far we have come in the last few years that we are talking about CL qualification, catching the likes of City and Chelsea, having won a trophy, all at over the weekend.
Fancy our chances more against Bodo/Glimt, Frankfurt, Lyon and Rangers than Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG and Barcelona
So do I, but I fancy the occasion / prestige of playing Real Madrid at St James' rather than an away trip to FCSB
