At least Liverpool are a big enough club not to give a **** about Saints though. You don't see them coming on to other fans forums giving it the big one.

And NUFC as a club are ****ing cheats, so there's that as well

Just shows the level of aggression, determination and skill it needs to win a trophy, especially against League leaders. We are light years away from that. Do they play out from the back.? Do they ****! They play which ever way wins the match.

Exactly. Look at their set pieces as well. They moved Burn away from the goalmouth which also took him away from VVD. Result - one goal plus plenty of other chances.

Glad Newcastle won as it will.mean more to their fans.

Liverpool will be an interesting team to watch next season. Just wondering if they have gone as far as they can with this team.and need to rebuild for 25 / 26?

I feel like you’ve been saying this for years, along with your love in for Man Utd “about to come good”.

I do agree that Liverpool probably will need a rebuild with some of their key players now aging. Be interesting how they do as they are the only big team who don’t throw money around (comparatively anyway)

I don’t have any great love for Newcastle, I think they have one of the more pompous and arrogant fan bases out there, similar to Everton or Leeds. One of those that gloat and like to invade other boards to talk about how great they are. Also the ownership situation….

BUT you do have to respect just how seriously they take football up there, the numbers they travel in and unlike Liverpool fans they have had to deal with some **** footballing times (not quite on our level mind) and will fully appreciate this win. This is the better outcome and it is nice to have a bit of variety.

Similarly Howe can be a bit of a grating personality, but there is no doubt he is the best English manager at this moment in time and he deserves the silverware. (First English manager to lift a major English trophy since Redknapp with the Skates).

They spent basically nothing last Summer so presumably will have a fair bit to spend this.

The player contract situation isn't ideal though. Think TAA is already gone but if they lost Salah and VVD for nothing too that'd be huge.

I think they’ll lose all 3 so yeah will need to do a fair bit. Can’t see them spending like Chelsea or City so will need to do well with their signings. More Gravenberch than Nunez

Think they'll sell Nunez this Summer but it leaves a lot of work to do. Probably need a LB too as think Robertson past his best.

I have no infinity towards Man Utd but do no dislike them as much Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs. I grew up following Saints in the the years before the 1976 Cup and Man Utd were always a joke throughout the 1970s and 80s. I hated Man Utd during the Ferguson era yet think that what he achieved with Man Utd far exceeded the achievements of Liverpool up until the departure of Dalglish. In my opinion, Ferguson was the greatest British manager ever but feel that Man City probably represent the apogee of the English game.

I am shocked that Man Utd have been off the pace for so long. I never expected that and just feel they are well overdue a return to being the best club in the UK. I am perplexed by them. Poor signings and weak managers have combined to underwhelm them. They should be contending for the title every season.

Each to their own I suppose. I grew up during the Fergie years so had so many plastic Utd fans in school etc which made them my most hated team by a distance then. I fluctuate and I don’t really care about them now, dislike Liverpool far more. And Leeds. And Spurs. And Everton. Always liked Arsenal and City. Think for me it is more about taking the piss out of people I know.

Doesn’t bother me at all what people say but I know it winds others up, so I’d gladly take the Derby record in exchange for Leeds bottling promotion to laugh at the Leeds fans I know.

I remember Dan Burn playing for Wigan when Saints beat them in the cup at their place just after Hughes had arrived as manager - Cedric scored! Anyway, just shows where the right attitude can take you. Some of our players should take note.

I went to school in Stockbridge (Hampshire) in the 70s, started in 1973, I think it's called Danebury Academy or similar now - which is a joke but that's another story - and me and my mates from the nearby villages, Lockerley, West Tytherly, West Dean, were all Saints supporters, going regularly on the 'two-bob' bus but at that bloody school all the other's seem to support Leeds United. They'd never been there, but a few wore Leeds kits in PE and more than one had Leeds sports bags. It was weird and ridiculous.

I remember one lad really tearing into me about how Yorkshire had the greatest football team, the greatest cricket team and the greatest rugby team, he lived in a tiny Hampshire village.

So I will never like Leeds United.

Yeah I grew up in Bristol and only know a handful of people who support City or Rovers. The majority follow one of them loosely but have a main team who is usually one of the big 6. Pretty much all of them have no reason to support anyone else apart from the local sides. Most of them “have an uncle” or something which is their reasoning for supporting a top club. Imagine it’s similar everywhere, with City added into the usual suspects for kids now

I started secondary school exactly the same time as you in Fair Oak and there were quite a few Leeds fans there too. I always put it down to the fact that the FA cup final was one of the few matches live on TV then and Leeds won it in 1971. These people certainly didn’t have Yorkshire accents.

Yeah it’s weird isn’t it. Someone asked me a while ago, pre 2012 promotion, if I had a a main/proper team I supported. As though supporting a team outside the big six isn’t actually following football.
