We currently have 5 CBs listed in the first team squad -- Duffy, McConville, Cordoba, Doyle and Hills. I'm not expecting Duffy to be a regular starter next season; Doyle will have gone; and questionmarks remain over Hills. None of the noises about the U21 CBs, including Adeboyega, suggest any of them are likely to join Cordoba and McConville in making up the first team four + Duffy for next season. Added to which, Thorup has consistently said he's not too exercised over having right and left footed players at CB, most recently talking about Cordoba being an option at RCB. Given Fernandez's size and reported heading ability and comfort on the ball, I wouldn't be surprised if we remain interested. That said, according to the Posh ceo, the January deal fell through because of doubts on the player's side, not the club's, so even if we want him, we may not get him.
There are rumours on X regarding Marseille apparently looking to pay us a fee to remove the mandatory buy clause in Jonathan Rowe. Would anyone take him back here? Could the manager trust him? Would he be willing to come back? He would surely make a good replacement for Sainz if he were to leave
Yep. He’d hopefully be a bit more humble and you can’t blame him for wanting to push his career forward.
I believe in second chances but they will owe us 12 million pounds in the summer. How much are they willing to pay us now?
And have the finance guys allowed for the £12m in their financial plan and the football guys allowed for the loss of Rowe in their plan? If so, both would need a substantial review. Quite simply, in our current situation would we spend £12m on a player who has failed at his current club and who plays in a position where there is little need for an extra player? I think not. From what I can gather, mainly from our sports media, he struggles with the language, has not settled in the area and is not adapting to the playing system. Feel sorry for the lad but not our problem.
Sure, but if they pay us, say, £8m to get out of it - actually that’s a net cost of £4m. Maybe something like that is worth it? I’d be happy bringing Rowe back in for £4m - it’s just one bad season abroad.
Who’s also to say that we don’t just sell him again? Take a few million for having him back and then sell him for £12m to another suitor
I'm not sure I'm reading you right. Rowe wouldn't cost us £12m to get back if Marseilles paid us a fee to get rid of the mandatory buy clause. I don't think they would offer enough though.
What I was trying to say was that as far as NCFC is concerned Rowe has gone and at the end of the season the money starts rolling in. Do we need to replace him? Probably not? If we did would we spend £12m on the sort of player I described? Certainly not!! Marseilles are the sort of Club who are careful with finances and I just cannot accept that they would make this approach and if they did they would not be suggesting large sums. So what would be the decision facing us? What is better for the Club? £12m over the next couple of years or Rowe - a player we do not need - plus £1m or £2m at the end of whatever period of time Marseilles set out to prevent a quick sale for profit. No brainer as far as I can see.
All depends on what Marseille's cut and run fee would be and how genuinely positive Rowe would be coming back to Norwich. Did he burn his bridges or was it more of a beat up by fans and media when he suddenly got the Marseille call. Tough to argue against Norwich insisting on the contracted £12m back in the kitty, though if we got at least half that plus a motivated Rowe back (and Sainz potentially on the move), then the maths might start to make sense. If Rowe then plays out of his skin and we get similar offers for him next season then we're laughing. If Marseille's cut and run offer is derisory then i'm sure it will be
Sheffield Utd apparently very keen on signing Sara. That would be a depressing move for me, and would he really want to make that move?
Seems a strange one. Why would he want to move to Sheffield? I thought he was doing well at Galatasaray
Fairly firm rumour which makes a lot of sense, though there's a lot of competition: https://thehardtackle.com/transfer-...y-keen-on-nathan-butler-oyedeji-from-arsenal/
Agree it makes sense Rick with Wilshire and Knapper here who would have been very involved with his development, and on a free, what's not to like.
