Your comment about performance levels is talking ****e. If that was the case, they’d all be wearing gloves at certain temperatures. Charlie Hughes and Lewie Coyle can somehow manage short sleeves and no gloves in 7°C Black Country weather. Point is, if it’s cold enough for gloves, it’s cold enough for thermals or long sleeves. It’s a fashion thing and only tricky wingers can pull off the gloves and short sleeves look. Defensive mids and centre-halves doing it is just cringe.
Cold fingers feel less comfortable than cold ones Maybe a player has reynauds Its no big deal really Never seen anyone complain about a cold forearm
Actually, that’s not true, wearing gloves retains much more body heat than wearing sleeves. It’s all about the extremities. Wait until you get past sixty, you’ll barely ever take your gloves off, I never leave the house without mine. Even in July.
I get your point, OLM, but some players play in short sleeves and gloves like Alzate and others like Hughes just wear short sleeves. It wasn’t even that cold today. I’m not denying gloves serve a practical purpose even for outfield footballers but some of them do the short sleeves and gloves combo as a fashion statement and a lot of the time it looks naff. Defensive mids and centre-halves doing it just looks weird. Holes cut in socks is another thing people justify because it’s ‘better for circulation’. You’re in the clothing business. Adidas and Nike can’t manufacture less tight socks? The grip socks players wear and just pull the club socks over like a sleeve actually serve a purpose. The guy who invented them has made a fortune from it. No problem with that. Centre-halves and defensive mids wearing short sleeves and gloves in mild March weather can get in the bin though.
You really are a bit dense, aren’t you? Maybe today’s players are wimps compared to the players back then.
Interesting because snoods were banned and outfield players have never been allowed to wear full head coverings like caps or beanies.
I'm past sixty and don't own gloves, and never will. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Depends what you are wearing. If fully clothed you lose most through your head as it is the only exposed part.Doesn’t apply of you are wearing shorts or short sleeves.
In other news, it seems Ipswich fans on Twitter really don’t rate Greaves. They think he’s their worst centre-back.
I just think he’s been poor at Ipswich. He did okay early on, got injured and has been poor ever since he returned to the side. Burgess was playing well for Ipswich whilst Greaves was injured then was unceremoniously dropped once Greaves was fit and available again. From what I’ve seen on Twitter and Ipswich forums, their fans think Greaves isn’t half the player Burgess is. It’s ironic because I thought Lewis-Potter’s move to Brentford was premature and Greaves’ move to a Prem team was overdue but the former is now thriving and the latter is struggling in his first Premier League season. I think it’s because Brentford signed Lewis-Potter as someone with potential they could gradually ease in, not putting too much pressure on him, whereas Greaves has been signed to be a starter in a newly-promoted side i.e. thrown into the deep end. In hindsight, Greaves was probably best off going to an established mid-table club like Brentford, Fulham, West Ham etc. not as a starter but someone to challenge their current centre-backs for a place in the team. At Ipswich he’s been exposed in a weak side by Prem standards and his transfer fee is a burden hanging over him.
