I said on another thread that I don’t think the transfers have worked well. Beyond O’Shea, Cajuste, and Delap - no new signings have strung together a decent run of games. Philogene doesn’t look Premier League quality, but not many Town players do. I don’t think we can give the lads from last season a pass either. Philogene’s got the same amount of league goals as Chaplin, Hirst, Broadhead, and Burns combined already this season. New players like Muric, Godfrey, Greaves, Phillips, Jack Clarke, and Philogene look out of their depth at this level. So do many of the players from last season too. Quite clear we’ve got to take relegation on the chin and hope this squad of players - with some additions to replace departing lads - get us back up next season.
Injuries have had nothing much to do with it. We broke up the partnerships and connections, we always look vulnerable and we’ve rarely looked a threat in forward areas.
So having injuries to the players in those partnerships had nothing to do it with it???? Chaplin, Burns, Hirst, Broadhead.
I think they have had a pretty big impact. If we’re top of any table this season it’s days lost to injuries. Might be an argument that the coaching and fitness staff aren’t getting players properly prepared. Maybe the players - many of whom hadn’t played Premier League football before this season - weren’t quite physically tested enough to play at this tempo, therefore injuries are more of an issue. Then again, a lot of the injuries have come during games and not on the training pitch. Players like Tuanzebe, Szmodics, Ogbene, Chaplin, Burns, and Hirst got injured at really bad times for us, when they were either in decent form or it robbed us of any good depth.
****, still too many chances for Palmer to throw the ball out quickly and he doesn't. There were a couple of really good moments to do that in the first half and instead he just holds onto the ball and waves the players up the pitch. Throw the bloody ball out!
Not enough overlaps from O'Shea to help the winger get space. Our wide players continually doubled up on.
Injuries to Chaplin, Burns, ogbene etc have made no bloody difference....those players already showed they were way out of their depth before said injuries!!
Absolutely nothing to do with it. We’ve played Jack Clarke when Broadhead has been fit and Hirst has barely had a look in when fit. There’s a short list of injuries but a much longer list of poor choices. We’ve let Harry Clarke go and brought in Godfrey, we’ve let Hladky go and brought Muric in. We’ve spent a fortune on the hapless O’Shea / Greaves partnership.
I was amazed at your transfer policy, your coach definitely under estimated the step up in quality that was needed, it really was a scattergun approach I actually think you’ve gone from having the games most promising coach to the the worst in the PL, he has been massively found short You probably have to keep him as he is the best option to come straight back up
He is not the worst coach by any means, a combination of factors have led to our downfall. Hopefully we can regroup and start a fresh campaign with all our key players fit.
I call for Hirst every week, love him. I don't get McKenna and his thinking half the time, Leif doesn't play, Townsend comes in and we look better, the next week Leif comes back in and Townsend bombed The CBs are changed every week. For half a season it has been blatantly obvious that hutch ain't strong enough in the 10 but he persisted with it. Sorry km lovers but he is to blame here!!
