Os, I haven’t ‘fallen’ for anything. I watched it myself and came to my own conclusion. I then showed it to my wife without saying anything other than showing her the clip, and she was shocked into silence. That silence was finally broken by her saying “****ing hell, no way”. No propaganda there mate. Just two people watching a video seeing something that was patently obvious unless for some reason you want to try and deny it.
If you weren’t presented that entire clip, with a media headline screaming the word “NAZI”, there is zero chance you would think it’s a Nazi salute it’s the type of gesture that people make when they are not even thinking they’d be accused of being a Nazi. It’s just totally absurd accusation to make. You watched that clip, after it was already weaponised against you, and now you’re pretending to be an objective observer.
You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. I didn’t say anything about it to my wife, just showed her. It’s so obvious what it was - it’s a universally recognised gesture. How is that so hard for you to understand? Literally 100% chance I think ‘Nazi salute’ whenever I see someone do that, regardless of who it is. Every single time. That’s as universally recognised as a ****er gesture, or a middle finger. Unless your identity has become so attached to this that you have to try and hide what it is.
You were already preconditioned to think a certain way, otherwise why show it your wife? If you were show a 10 second clip of anyone doing a similar thing with headlines saying “Nazi” you would obviously fall for it again and again. I find it absolutely wild to see how easy it is to manipulate even smart people like you. A few headlines, and a clip of absolutely nothing and people go crazy.
Os, I wasn’t preconditioned. I watched it and saw what I saw. If it was ‘nothing’ I have the strength of mind to make that decision for myself. It wasn’t ‘nothing’. It’s staggering that your identity is now so embedded in this that you can’t allow yourself to see past it. Your inner child is so protective of that constructed identity, so scared to allow it to be questioned as to do so makes it feel attacked, it’s blinding you and deafening you. Fair point. I don’t think he did mean it as in “I am a Nazi” - I still don’t. But at best he should know that doing that action is really ill-advised. At worst he’s doing it as a provocation. The more I’ve watched him and seen how he is, the more I think now it was the latter too. So yes, I have changed my mind slightly on it, though not on the nature of what that action is.
I think Charlie Kirk is one of the most odious little windbags who makes a career out of arguing with emotional students and editing out decent arguments, but here he quite happily proves it was a nazi salute - at least by optics as he totally refuses to repeat Musk’s action: By the way, the guy arguing with him is no better. If someone scored a goal on the football pitch, then did the same action in the same way Musk did, they’d be sent off and banned. Probably have their contract ripped up by their club. Wonder why that is? (Unless they played for Lazio, probably…)
Exactly. If you went to a game and started doing that, in the same way, you’d be ejected from the ground and would likely end up being banned from football grounds for a number of years. Without any ‘propaganda’, funnily enough. Why? Because everybody knows what that action is, and what it means. Everyone.
