    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 15 March 2025
    Kick off - 3pm

Following their hard fought and, in many ways, undeserved 0-1 defeat at the hands of Play-Off hopefuls Watford, next up for Alan Sheehan’s much improved Swansea squad is (on paper) one of the toughest challenges in this season’s Championship campaign, a match against automatic promotion hopefuls Burnley.

On Wednesday evening, Watford boosted their Championship play-off hopes as Moussa Sissoko's goal ended Swansea City's unbeaten run under Alan Sheehan.

Sissoko made Swansea pay after Goncalo Franco's glaring error, the Watford skipper stroking home first time from Tom Ince's pass.

Swansea had their moments, with Zan Vipotnik going closest for a visiting side who will feel they should have claimed a point, but the Hornets held on for just the second win in their past eight home games.

Victory means Watford climb to 10th, with the gap to sixth-placed Coventry City cut to four points with nine games remaining.

Defeat was Swansea's first in four matches - and their first since caretaker boss Sheehan took the reins following the departure of Luke Williams last month.

Swansea remain 16th in the table, nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The previous evening, Burnley manager Scott Parker and defender CJ Egan-Riley were both sent off after the final whistle as West Brom put a dent in the Clarets' promotion hopes as they were held to a draw.

John Swift's excellent free kick - the first goal Burnley have conceded at Turf Moor since December 21 - put the Baggies ahead in the first half of a tight encounter which keeps Tony Mowbray's side in the hunt for a top-six placing.

The lead lasted just three minutes before Zian Flemming snapped up a fumble by West Brom keeper Joe Wildsmith to level for Burnley.

Both sides hit the bar in the second half, Jaidon Anthony for Burnley and Mikey Johnston for the Midlanders, before Parker and Egan-Riley were both shown red cards by referee Gavin Ward.

Egan-Riley was dismissed after he clashed with Baggies player Will Lankshear, who was shown a yellow card, and Parker was also punished for getting involved in the melee that followed.

Burnley’s appeal in respect of Egan-Riley's red card was subsequently successful.

Burnley are currently in 3rd place in the table, 2pts behind Sheffield United who are in 2nd place.

The Swans have played Burnley on 51 previous occasions, winning 17, drawing 13 and losing 21.

The teams last met in Swansea in January 2023 when Burnley ran out 1-2 winners:

Turning to tomorrow, whilst Burnley will be strong favourites to leave with the 3pts, I think that the Swans are more than capable of securing at least a point: I’m going for an entertaining 2-2 draw. <cheers>

Cheers Taff. If they're properly up for this I can't see us losing. In fact, I'm going out on a limb here, 2 - 1 <ok>

I didn’t see it as I’m on a rugby job, but what has happened after 3 clean sheets to make us resort to giving the ball away so easily again ?

If we keep giving the ball away at this rate then we've got no hope in this game whatsoever. Key stepped on it and fell over and they passed into the box and tapped in.

    Half time 0 - 2.

Burnley much sharper and the better side. From the second goal they've been happy to let Swansea have the ball and haven't really been troubled apart from the penalty shout. I thought it should have been a penalty. It wasn't deliberate hand ball but if he hadn't touched it it may have gone in.

Franco's played a lot of poor passes today. The players look a bit lethargic.

Looks like my mention of 3 defeats on the bounce looks highly likely

    Just getting back home.

Have to say that was the most inept and lethargic performance I’ve seen from us in a long, long time.

So many players ‘off their game’, so many stray passes, so many mistakes ….

Yes, Burnley were the better team on the day but they didn’t have to do much to win as we handed them 2 goals on a plate.

How Cullen stayed on whilst Eom was hooked is one of life’s little mysteries.

Moreover, it’s becoming more than a little tedious to see Cullen moaning, groaning and acting like an entitled kid ….. it’s no wonder that he now gets given hardly any 50:50 decisions from referees who must be sick of having him in their faces.

Key was dreadful today - he’s been largely poor since Luke Williams compared him to Gareth Bale: I think Luke would have been closer if he’d compared him to Christian Bale … <whistle>

I've been thinking the same thing the last couple of games (at least). How he doesn't get more yellows is a mystery. Ticking time bomb.
