Why not? For one, it's a national team and should represent the country in question. England should be capable of putting together two-dozen players and a manager. Second, if you really want to try a foreigner, at least pick one that isn't from a nation with whom you have a rivalry. Sir Alex Ferguson once said he had considered a tentative proposition to become England manager so that he could 'run us into the ground'. Germans, Frenchmen, Welshmen, Irishmen and Argentines should be a pretty obvious 'no thanks'. Third, countries simply do not win trophies with foreign managers. In the history of the Euros and World Cup, only once has either trophy been won by a country managed by a foreigner, and that was Greece.
Henderson has started 1 in the last 8 games for Ajax, and he's not been injured as far as I know. Joke inclusion.
What a completely horrendous squad. the likes of Mitchell, Wharton, Gibbs White and Delap should have a chance.
I think that’s exactly what it is, you’re spot on. Bit of grit, organisation and experience. I was never a Henderson fan ever, but I think England missed him last tournament, and the stuff I’ve seen ex players say about him is changing my opinion on him.
Hope I'm wrong but it seems primed to blow up in our faces this. Team doing well, consistently reaching the latter stage of tournaments, very little room to improve results realistically. Talk of the previous manager being too cautious, too safe and slow, and now excitement that the new German manager is going to bring much more excitement with his more bombastic attacking style. Can't help but feel I've heard this one before. It can't go as badly as our Tim but he does have a big job on his hands if we're expecting him to better the job Southgate did, and the idea of doing it just by throwing caution to the wind seems fanciful to me.
I think he'll do okay, but might not be convincing from the off...I hope the sewer tabloid press don't have it in for him from the off, but I guess they will.
Online rumour is that the FA are going to put Tuchel on gardening leave and ask Southgate to step back in for the foreseeable. Admittedly this post is the online rumour but you should still treat it as credible. Probably.
The players England have had over recent years, you could argue that we SHOULD be getting to the latter stages of tournaments. The fact is, we aren’t winning them, and that’s because (imo) Southgate was incapable of getting the final “big” decisions right.
