Eintracht are clearly priorising the Europa League In our last five games, we've amassed 10 points In their last 5 games, they've amassed 5 points - but offset the drubbings by Bayern and Leverkusen by utterly flattening Ajax
Yeah, at least a 2 goal lead. Frankfurt are a top side, probably amongst the favourites with us and Utd to win the comp. Won it a couple years ago too so they know what it takes, doing well in the Bundesliga too.
Difference being they're in fourth, so have the luxury of prioritising Europe We need a good 2-3 wins to be sure that we don't have to be looking over our shoulders, but realistically the issue is if we prioritise Europe and fail malaise might set in sort of like when Hoddle prioritised the Season Killer Cup, failed, and the we spent the remainder of the season in relegation-level form
Final of Europa is at the end of the season though? the hunger for that hopefully gives us enough energy to scrape a few wins in the league
Frankfurt can't afford to ignore the Bundesliga because of their chasing pack. Freiburg are a point behind them and Leipzig are only a further two. You can go all the way back to 10th and Dortmund might have a shot at catching them if they drop off. Their league form over the last 7 games is awful, including losing the last 3. That's not sustainable if they want to qualify for Europe next season. Replacing Marmoush with Batshuayi has been costly, so far. Probably not unexpectedly.
Bergvall put in an impressive performance again, barring the obvious error that lead to their goal. It was nice to see him get a standing ovation as he walked round the pitch after being subbed. He seemed to appreciate it and I'm sure it'll ease his mind a bit on the **** up. The maturity that him and Gray show at their ages is fantastic.
25 minutes in Solanke grabbing the ball off their keeper like we are in injury time to get going again good to see that kind of job to do focus I like Solanke, his holdup play is outstanding, 2 assists too superb
It's even more impressive because he's so isolated most of the time. Clearly nowhere near 100% at the moment either and still fighting for everything.
Odobert seems to be everything Johnson should be what I mean is he’s a footballer not a sprinter Odobert taking up positions Johnson probably would but brings so much more to our game with his trickery, dribbling, into our wing play instead of trying to outsprint the full back or bust. Could be tough for Johnson to get in the team if Odobert stays fit imo but got to see if Odobert has consistency in his game had a big night tonight though Johnson good to run at tired legs off the bench type for me but I respect the fact that he has scored goals for us this season because we have had a ****e season so far and his goals have counted for points good finish for the first calm and composed Top youngsters at the club let’s see if they turn up against Frankfurt tough tough game imo
There are some insanely talented youngsters we appear to have on the books at the moment. Someone, probably not Ange, is going to benefit from a serious squad in a couple of years.
I didn't get to watch the game last night, only had the radio , according to Talkshite this morning we scraped the win , we were lucky to get through and it was a nervous display , only seen the highlights so it is hard to tell but from the radio commentary it was a different game
Why I don't listen to it! Yep, they had a few chances and on another night it all could have gone terribly wrong but I thought we battled well to get that across the line. Our third is a thing of beauty if you've not seen it yet.... As an aside I also thought Joe Hart on the commentary was excellent.
Yes, if AZ had better forwards they could have scored a few more than the single goal. But that’s football for you. I thought that tackle by VDV in the box could on another day been a penalty as he didn’t get the ball. I actually thought one of our goals might have been called offside as Sarr was offside and obstructed their keeper’s view. We are not out of the woods yet and thought we played quite poorly despite the goals. Bergvall was simply brilliant though, very dynamic and even Son caused them some problems. So it wasn’t a comprehensive victory but it’s good to get a win but we are still going to struggle against the better teams…like Fulham!
