But the penalty wasn’t given, despite the fact that there was clear and obvious contact two ways. If you look closely you can see that the knee contact occurs simultaneously with the push in the back, which coincides with the release of the shirt also. All of those things are clear to see but whether or not Puerta dived is much more subjective and certainly the ref shouldn’t have been giving that decision as the logical outcome.
The way he went down was because he was being tripped and pushed in the back at the same time. The defenders leg was restricting puertas forward movement at the same time as being bundled over by the shove in the back. Might have looked like a dive at first glance but when you consider the twin contact it clearly wasn't. Ref probably got a partial view and got it wrong. Simple as.
Nah I don't like this apologism for diving. This is why the problem exists. Just because it's our player doesn't mean we shouldn't call it what it was. No one goes down like that in any scenario except playing football. If someone bumps you or trips you or whatever you obviously try to stay on your feet, maybe you stumble. You don't deliberately propel yourself forwards into the air with a big push through the ankles. If you did that anywhere but on a football pitch it would be absolutely mental behaviour. We're just used to footballers doing it.
Which is why it’s stupid there is no review system - refs aren’t always able to see it live in the moment and that’s fine. But allow them to rescind the suspension after when it’s clearly wrong.
Only visited Botanic twice as it's not on my side of the city, met Shaun and many regulars when City played in Zell am See, (in the aptly named City Bar) good lads one and all. Best to ignore the tosspots Lou, there's bound to be another unfounded rumour shortly. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
His forward momentum is being restricted from the front whilst being shoved in the back. How in earth can he either stay on his feet or go down without arching his back? It might have looked like a dive at first glance but slowmo's show it wasn't. Usually when players do accentuate contact they don't get booked even if the pen shout is waved away as long as there was some contact, in this case there were 2 simultaneous points of contact. And whether or not more generally you don't like gamesmanship in going down easily or exaggeration, it is certainly not limited to south americans, it's commonplace
He doesn’t even do a big arched back flop, he literally jumps forward a bit when running and being tripped and pushed at the same time. It’s a stonewall penalty. Can’t believe some are throwing him under the bus. His first yellow card is pure bollocks as well.
Ye maybe you're right... 2 wins out of 5, (I remembered it worse) before the wheels fell back off for a bit until he stabilised it again. Jesus Christ, looking back at the results, October and November were ****ing dark...
No. He absolutely should not have been banned. There is a high profile Joao Pedro precedent to compare it to also.
Shirt pulling in the box in front of goal, foul, penalty and yellow card to the defender. The preceding incessant so regardless of whether Puerta dived, it still should have been a penalty and a booking for the defender. And he didn’t dive.
Yea, that is called an instinctive reaction. What do you expect him to do just fall on to the top of his head without making any correction to his trajectory?
I have done thanks and nothing is proving to me this person only drinks in the said pub. He’s not even from this end of Hull.
