In another twist of the tale, it was the Canadians that refused her entry because of her working in the US (?) so she had to re enter the USA and it was there she as detained. Why would the Canadians have a problem with her, unless she had a tourist only visa for Canada, told them she had been working in the US and clearly had a tourist only visa for there and consequently the Canadians thought she would end up working illegally in Canada so refused her entry.
She didn't think you needed a work visa if you weren't being paid to work, she made a mistake, it absolutely didn't warrant being banged up for a couple of weeks. She wants to just get on a flight home, but that needs to be approved by a judge and there's a big delay in getting to court, due to dozens of judges resigning or being fired by the new administration.
And the story goes on, she arrived in the US in January and stayed with a family in Oregeon then left to go to Canada. Yet now they are saying she planned to do the domestic work for board and lodging. Some may wonder why I take such an interest in this, well having fallen foul of working on a tourist visa in a number of countries (Russia, Romania, Yugoslavia amongst them) I have never been detained for 14 day in a detention center. I just feel that there is more to this story than we are being told.
I've travelled across the Canadian border into the US in car on many occasions, crossing over at various places, such as Erie, Lewiston, Niagara. Though my Canadian uncle was driving. Never had a problem. Only time I had a problem was going into Canada from the US at Buffalo when the border guard asked me to go to the office across the road. I was in and out of there in 10 mins. I guess now that there is a bit of needle between them things might be about to get tricky.
She didn't think she was doing anything wrong, so told Canadian immigration she was going to help a family to get a free stay, they said you can't do that and refused her entry. Having been refused entry to Canada, being detained by the US authorities became pretty much automatic.
The story is a judicial system that is being stripped to the bone and falling apart, so she hasn't been processed for two weeks.. it's not about being punished for a minor visa issue. I know plenty of Irish lads who overstayed their US 104 week under-24 work visas back in the 1990s and they got a bollocking on their exit and told not to return for 2/3 years.. didn't get put in a cell.
****ing typical, glorious sunshine in Malaga as we’ve boarded the plane, I had two coats on and was flipping melting…city shirt on and on my way back to Blighty.. Nearly passing out breathing in… lol
Heading off to La Palma (Canary Islands) early Thursday morning, so hoping for a good result tomorrow night to send us on our way.
The government hardly wants to miss out on 2 sources of tax revenue, regardless of how much may fall through the cracks with the two sided transaction.
From my visits Canada and the US if you want to work there you have to declare why and where, they are very picky if you are doing jobs that locals should do and you can be quizzed extensively .
Currently in Cape Verde. There’s zero chance of me watching the game, so will be relying on the match thread. Ps My missed home games record over the last couple of years is P3 W2 D 1 L0 F9 A5 pts 7.
Off to France on Sunday, St Nazaire and Orleans, family duties. Not too excited really, been to both places many times, not a lot to do at this time of year but it has to be done.
Dart firing? Reminds me of Bangkok. Do the catapillers do tricks with ping pong balls and cigarettes as well?
Who takes a laptop or tablet on holiday?! Better things to do than stare at a screen surely? I go to Austria snowboarding first thing Saturday. Week sliding down mountains and making sure I keep my fluid intake up. Laptop not required.
