When you look at it.. Szobo, Mac, TAA, Jota.. along with Salah you probably expect to be 1-5 takers and 4/5 of the pitch. Just one of those things

Must say I was huge fan of the new league format, however - and maybe it’s because we got screwed by the draw - but we finished 1st and the ‘best’ scenario we got the team in 18th, worse case the team in 15th.

Villa on the other hand came 8th and got the team that came through in 24th.

so it doesn’t seem quite right. I get that the theory is 9-15 beat 10-24 but think if after another couple years you see team finishing first get screwed over in the draw they may look at it.

Whether you make it a random draw after that so 1-8 can draw anyone that finished 9-24. Not too sure. I guess they’re trying to make the position you finish 1-8 important

but hey maybe next year will finish 8th and get a **** team and I’ll be all for it lol

No hate on Darwin - he just isn't good enough. Jones pen **** too. But, deserved or not, we should have wrapped it up in the 2nd half when, for the first time in the whole tie, we were totally dominant. We looked dead on our feet in that extra time. I suppose we got back the fortune we had in the first leg. Just gutted that on top of everything, we've lost Trent and Ibou for the final on Sunday.

Anyway, roll on the parade in May - that'll totally do me. :emoticon-0100-smile

Understand that, but hating on individuals will never sit right with me, no matter the situation

Not sure acting a **** at all? I don’t agree Nunez pen was decent was mid goal and mid height. Any pen where keeper goes right wrong way is a good one.

but look at dembele pen compared to Nunez. Keeper both went right way but dembele was top corner that no keeper is saving.

As I said don’t think Nunez one was great but not worse seen and def won’t hold it against him. He was prob 6th on list of pen takers just a shame that 4 before him were all off the pitch.

So, I’d of preferred to go gung ho in 90 and lose 2-0 than to go out like that. Pens are a lottery, ours were a bit soft on the day and we lost. No shame in that, they are the best we’ve played all season by a stretch.

Now we’re ****ed and have extra injuries for the final…..am genuinely concerned and thank **** we have a big lead in the league!

My mate, a Sunderland supporter who was with us tonight because of me, said before the pens started that he's 6' 8", so every pen has go in the side netting, much like Salah's did. He didn't even move for it. 4 out of 5 Prem goalies would have saved Darwin's, and we all know it. No hate on him, but he really doesn't have the technique nor temperament for a pen shootout. A gimme pen in the LC early rounds when we're four up, but otherwise he's bang-average, at best. As said, no hate on him though - he's just not quality. I think Diaz would have missed tonight as well, tbh.

3 out of 5 would have saved Jones' too, in fairness. Again, he's a decent squad player, but he's not big time.

But no hate or sour grapes - I'll cheer them all on when we have that parade. And we will. :emoticon-0165-muscl

Agreed, flippant comments on here after an emotionally draining night I can live with though. Obviously full scale vileness that is no doubt doing the rounds on Twitter is never ok

Yes, but he is still our player until the summer at least and tries his best and has got us out of some holes this season too, not least twice in this past week.

I don’t think many believe we can’t do better

When do you ever have five players with perfect technique for penalties? It wasn't a bad penalty, **** happens.

And I'm a massive critic of penalties usually!

Usually, going right back to the days of Chris Lawler as far as I can remember, your players with the best technique are your penalty-takers. And temperament. I'll say again. I'm not hating on Darwin, but his technique is haphazard, and he's as cool as a Chornobyl uranium rod. It was a poor pen. Jones' wasn't much better, but that's because he's not that much better than Darwin in terms of technique and temperament. I'll say for the umpteenth time tonight that I'm not hating on him. We're going to win the league in May and I'll be at the parade (albeit with a Japanese flag for Endo) and I'll cheer Darwin on with all my heart when he goes past.

That said, I don't expect either of those cult figures to be in our squad next season. But I'll always thank them for everything they've done for us. ironic that Darwin has won far, far more with us than Torres ever did, for instance. And he deserves his medals. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I've just got on the board and haven't read back, but I'm guessing there's a fair bit of criticism been thrown about.
I'd never give anyone stick for missing in a shootout - it's a lottery and I've never liked it as a way to finish a game (though I accept we have to finish somehow).
Having said that, I would never put Nunez forward to take a pen as I don't think he's cool enough, but all the ones who would have been better were off.
I thought Ali should have done better with the first as well, btw.
Still, we had plenty of chances to win from open play and we just couldn't do it.
It's a horrible way to lose a game, but we have to stick together and keep our heads up. No blaming of individuals from me, we win or lose together.

I think everyone is just confused that Nunez was there to take the pen. Pretty much anyone else until it's just people stepping up. Not his fault we have staff that should know better.

Yeah, I was surprised to see him step up, and not at all surprised to see him miss. Shame.
