More Manchester City news. This is a big one: it’s gone to the European Commission rather than the football authorities. I’m not quite sure how they have jurisdiction although the alleged offences would have occurred while Britain was part of the EU. Perhaps it amounts to illegal cross border transactions or competition. Having said that, it’ll probably be 10 years before anything happens anyway. Donald Trump compares himself as a great USA President (better than Washington)....and tells Zelensky to literally grovel at his feet and be thankful that he (Trump) will stop the war......and Ukraine sould be thankful that they still have some country. Putin will be watching all this from Moscow....and his stomach must be aching with all the laughter and happy tears that must be flowing....and all caused by his buddy Trump. Zelensky won't be signing any contracts with Trump today I think.
The White House becomes even more like a bad Netflix series. An ex comedian president clashes with a property developer president who claims in court that it wasn’t fraud because he doesn’t know how commercial property is valued. We are all survivalists now. I started digging my bunker this afternoon. But I’m with the comedian. He told jokes for a living not lies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c625ex282zzt
Trump can't get even worse than this can he? He really is shocking isn't he. He should have got a smack from Zelensky. His Vice Pres is just about as bad as he is as well. My take on this is that they just want Zelensky gone no matter what it takes and the disrespect they showed to Ukraine was nothing short of disgusting.
I think the visit to the King is key. Balmoral, the late Queen’s favourite. Whiskey. The moors. Deer stalking. Trump will love that manly stuff. An accidental discharge of a hunting rifle……. Vodka martinis all round. Shaken, not stirred……
Vice President Vance is a real right wing nasty bit of work.....he started it all with all these non-truths he threw at Zelensky....he's the one that Zelensky should of head butted. If Trump ever keeled over and Vance became President then we would really have problems.
It does become hard to understand how Zelensky started this war. Maybe by not surrendering to Putin on day one...and asking Putin to come in and take over....has been defined as starting the war. What is upsetting Trump is that Putin might end up with all that mineral wealth.
Trump is just straitjacket crazy. The other frightening thing he seems to have done which is may be a bit under-the-radar compared to Ukraine, is to procure the release of alleged sex offender Andrew Tate and his brother from Romania. They are supposedly required to return to face charges but the chances of them doing that once in the USA is disappearingly small. Interestingly, they have been banned from entering Florida by Governor Ron DeSantis, himself a Republican, indicating the stresses Trump is putting on US governance, never mind the rest of us. Now freedom of speech is one thing but sex trafficking and abuse is another. Financial non compliance and sexual offending. You can see why they get on. Chaos and unproven theories surround Tates' release from Romania https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c99np092vk1o Now I have an apology to make to Devon & Cornwall police on this. I was a bit more than sceptical about their brief diversion from persecuting motorists to take an action against the Tates for non-payment of VAT on online transactions that passed through their beat. I believe they have in fact won a case for a six figure sum. Whether they’ll ever see the cash is probably a different matter.
The Danish letter delivery service is closing down at the end of 2025. 90% of letters are now sent electronically Other countries are moving in the same direction.
What about Xmas and birthday cards? I draw the line at sending those electronically. They may just be bits of folded cardboard but least you have to be assed to pick one out. They only require two words - Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday respectively. It’s only the handwritten bits that have Here’s a good one though…. On The Ceiling Cards, available online. 1 please log in to view this image
We complain about the cost of sending letters/greeting cards in this country.....but in Denmark their 400 year old postal service charge the equivalent of between £3 to £4 for the privilage......just no more choosing personally and writing cards at Christmas with that little catch up comment.....just the same comment to everyone and pressing the button and send to all....think of all the time saved and the end of another of life's rituals.
Talking about life's little rituals......the UK's Eurovision 2025 act to be revealed today....now that is one little ritual they can do away with that I will not miss.
Further to the above.....just read in the newspaper that Country-pop girlband "Remember Monday" have been confirmed as this year's UK entry into Eurovision with a song called "What the Hell Just Happened".....they will be heading to the Swiss city of Basel for the final on May17th. PS...An appropiate song title if a may say......
It's been announced that Tamar Bridge tolls paid for by the tag "season ticket" for locals will become cheaper relative to emmets and occasional users. Well I'm using the ferry from here on. They're putting yet more speed cameras on the A38 between Carkeel and Treulefoot. I understand the villagers there are under siege but what's required are by-passes (or an entirely new road). It wouldn't be so bad but in the summer, there's so much traffic that whilst most of the route is 50mph, the tail-backs from the 40 and 30mph sections means that 30mph is the de facto limit over the whole distance. There are cameras on the alternative A374 route from the ferry to Trerulefoot, but at least the traffic is light enough that it is 50 mph that applies. I appreciate it actually take longer by the time you've crossed on the ferry but it's a nice scenic route to drive and your aren't stuffed up the back of a caravan all the way.
Isn't it a strange coincidence that less than a week after a group of Bulgarians were found guilty of spying for Russia in the UK https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2gx52xqqpo two British diplomats have been expelled for Russia for spying. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2gx52xqqpo As we know, while a soldier is someone sent abroad to die for his country, a diplomat is someone sent abroad to lie for his country. As an avid reader of John le Carre and his ilk, it's no surprise that there are spies in all embassies but generally gentlemens' rules apply and they're allowed to get on with it as long as they don't do something silly. After all, if you have spies in your country, it's best to know who they are rather than throwing them out and having to find their replacements in 3 months time.
You must have my house bugged notdistant because that is exactly the comment I made when I heard this on the radio.
