Yeah Kelly played a decent bit, but he's never looked like he'd make it here unfortunately. Not consistent enough and never really kicked on to that next level. Really nice kid though and hope he makes enough impact to get a NL or League 2 move.

Got told today Isidor was absolutely knackered from fatigue before Sheff Wed.

    You wouldn't really think it.

Looking forward to it but gutted to be missing the match. We come every year so you never know if there are games on or not - 5 years ago we went down to Bristol Rovers from here, what a miserable night that was, which shows just how far we have come. Also, we had a young lad on loan who played that night and got dogs abuse, called Semenyo, who isn't doing too bad at the moment. I think Mayenda could be one to follow his path :emoticon-0148-yes:

Thanks. Best meeting we go to. Royal Ascot in June for a couple of days then 3 days at the Ebor meeting which I have been going to for about 58 years (Ovaltine in 1967 was my first).

Chris Mepham on importance of Regis Le Bris' honesty

    upload_2025-3-11_8-49-31.png

    https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...-importance-regis-le-bris-sunderland-honesty/

CHRIS Mepham admits it was tough to briefly lose his place in the Sunderland team last month but praised boss Regis Le Bris for the way he handled the situation....

"It was tough because naturally you want to be on the pitch as often as possible and help the team," he said.

"I felt like my performances had been decent going into that but I also had the conversation with the manager and he made it clear that it wasn't directly linked to my performances.

"It's important to use people like Dan Ballard who have been waiting patiently and I respected that and I understood the decision.

"I think that's why it's been good for me to come back in the team and show what I can do and help the team with two important wins. Hopefully I can carry that momentum on now in a really important stage of the season."

Mepham has been hugely impressed by Le Bris this season and wasn't surprised by the manner in which he handled last month's selection decision.

He said: "He was really clear on the reason behind it.

"I respect that when a manager has to make that decision and for me it's just about having an honest conversation around that. He pulled me before he made the decisions so I was in the loop and like I said, it's something I've experienced quite a few times and for me, as long as the manager's transparent and honest, which 100% he was.

"He's someone I've got a lot of respect for and he's done an incredible job. I think even the way he's managed the Wilson (Isidor) situation, I'm sure he wouldn't have expected to come out of the team but I think it's also important to reward players like Eli (Mayenda) that are coming in and giving a really good account of themselves to almost give them the shirt and say, look, it's yours to lose now."

And Mepham, an international defender with Premier League experience, said he knew he had to deal with being dropped in the right way.

He said: "I think it's something that definitely I've learned. I think I've experienced it a fair few times in my career being in the team and coming out and feeling that frustration but I think it's important to do things properly on the training pitch.

"You apply yourself and coming here I knew that I'd hopefully be an example to younger players.

"I try and help people like Eli that might find it frustrating at times when they're not starting and they're showing what they're about.

"I think it's important in those moments to help them and use my experience on being left out of the team and channel that in a way that can be positive for the team."

Yes mate. It’s fine for the bairns to go in, and if they’re like most teenagers who like pizza he’ll be fine! Hoping to get there about 6.30ish. Will drop you a text later

The fact that players are allowed, even encouraged, to have a bit of a personal moan, while speaking for other players, shows how good the team spirit is.

This is all like a dream and the alarm clock will soon snap me back into a reality of disgruntled players wanting away, paying off those who are stinking the place out and our young talent being sold off like it's a closing down sale

Miss the days of having players like that ****er Gibson telling a fan at a wedding that there are loads of players who don't give a **** while pissed and not giving a ****! Only to be upset when the bloke points out he is guilty!

Only to wipe out half a street of cars drink driving a few months later!

Thanks again RTB for a brilliant thread. Difficult game but would be great to get the win as I think points will be dropped in the top 4 tonight. Just hoping we get the 3 points against a team that are tight at the back will probably sit deep and look to hit us on the counter. I'd just be happy with 3 points at this stage of the season. Haway the lads.

    3-1 this.

Tricky side but we in good shape.

Just seen Patto while out and about and actually I’ll say the lad doesn’t look overweight in person at all. Might be the snug fitting kits.
