"he's the best footballing keeper we've probably never had, but saving is not a strong point" Sounds familiar doesn't it
I can’t believe people are whining about the red for Pedro, it’s irrelevant whether he made contact with the player, he’s off the floor, both feet in the air, basically, out of control, yes the Bristol player got caught by the other City player, but if he takes a different step to what he did, we could be talking about a very serious injury, instead of a near miss, it’s the intent of the tackle, he was out of control. Also with that Millwall tackle last week fresh in everyone’s minds, that’s going to get a red all day long! I’ve seen the other Bristol City tackle & I think that was lucky not to be a red. As for the penalty, yes soft, but when you see Jones throw him to the ground, whether it was play acting from their player or not, it looks like a penalty from the refs position.
Clean sheets don't tell the full story. Having looked, this season he's only facing 2 shots per game on average. He's ranked 28th in the league on 'Saves per 90 minutes'. The clean sheets are more a testament to how good the squad is. That's what defenders and midfielders are for. Birmingham are 11 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand. If Man City were in the Championship with Allsop in goal I'm sure it'd be HMS Piss The League. He was the second worst rated keeper in the Championship last season with a side that finished 7th. As I said before, he had some good moments for us, but he had too many bad ones as well. It must take some doing for a high possession based side at the top end of the table to have a keeper finish the season rated so lowly. I think over the course of both seasons so far, Allsop cost us more points than he gained us last season and Pandur has gained us more points than he's cost us this season. That near post shot was Allsop's achilles heel and the players in front of him didn't do enough to stop it either.
'Beaten at his near post, his Achilles heel is still there'. Cardiff City commentator when we played them last season. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
It's been pointed out before, but this "ranking" that you're keen to promote was just a graph some individual made plotting two particular stats that they chose to use. People make these graphs often and some of them get shared around. There's absolutely nothing official about it, and no reason to believe that it's a meaningful summary of how good a player is overall. All it tells you is those two specific stats. And people hate stats until they think it proves something they want it to... With Allsop, people always acknowledge that he's good on the ball but then downplay the importance of that. Whatever we think, the reality is that people inside the game consider that ability crucial now. Allsop keeps finding himself in teams that don't concede a lot of shots and finish high up the league. You can put that entirely down to the players in front of him or it could be that him helping the team to dominate the ball is part of it. That is why managers want keepers who can do that after all. It's easy for a fire-fighting goalkeeper who makes loads of saves in a poor team who face loads of shots to catch the eye. Like Johansson at Stoke who people talked about as the best keeper in the division when he was at Rotherham, yet he only got a move to another struggling side. That suggests that his famously very good shot-stopping wasn't enough.
Must admit in real time i thought it wasn't a 2 footed challenge but more a 2 footed block of a cross when looking at the reply it does look more like it was a challenge that he pulled out of
What does the fact no championship team wanted allsop tell you then? His famously very good passing ability wasn't enough was it.....
I agree with most. He's ****. But I think money talked in the Birmingham instance. But to reiterate....he is dog ****.
I find it bizarre some posters keep wanting to defend a player who wasn’t even here a year It’s not like he was some great servant for us And I agree with idi
Just like the last time you asked this it tells us Birmingham stumped up more cash. Just as they did with Stansfield.
He's also a 32 year old Birmingham City fan, who got offered a 3 year deal at Birmingham City, it was perfect for him.
Who else was in for him then that he turned down? I know you like to try argue against anything and everything, but I'll believe his agent thanks
Yes it 100% was perfect for him and he's on a very good wage. Doesn't change the fact nobody else was in for him though
