Having seen the replays, I was harsh on Patto. It's very clearly a foul on him and on his blind side too, it completely moves him out of position. please log in to view this image
Interesting the slow mo. It looks like the ball has already went past is hands before the cov player makes contact. Seems to have misjudged the flight of the ball a touch. There is more contact there than I thought at the game though. Ref thought he just have missed the ball before contact as usually they give free kicks easily for goalkeepers.
It’s the push to Patto’s left arm that makes him miss the ball. Goal wouldn’t have been given with VAR.
Not sure myself mind. Looks like it's just passed him before the contact. For me, watching it back, it looks like he should have come out and punched it anyway.
Patterson was weak but that’s irrelevant, the attacker raises his arm specifically to interfere with the keeper which is what happens … … it doesn’t matter if Patterson misses the ball by six feet it’s still a foul. Still, Hjelde did actually get his fist on the ball, at Hillsborough, so we can’t really complain
Tell you what mind, if was lovely to see Mundle back to full pelt. He was very very good in that first 20-30 mins.
Shows to me how hard it is to be a ref. He definitely pushed his arm. He definitely jumped into him. Patto was definitely struggling to reach the ball. The game was moving fast. I’d hate to be a ref. All of those statements are true.
Why is it that this incident isn't a foul on the keeper when every other touch on a keeper results in a free kick, its absolutely unbelievable how we rarely get the rub of the green off Referees.
I think Patto probably gets fingertips on it if not fouled. The bigger problem though is that the foul leaves Patto on the ground and prevents him from defending the follow up shot. Definitely a foul and should have been disallowed.
Feels like folk have decided Hjelde is **** and won’t budge. He’s actually been pretty solid as far as I can see. Couple errors, and a bit of fortune. Same as everyone else, including Dan, Mayenda, Wilson and Jobe, our 4 top players of the season. He is absolutely fine as a back up player and minutes will help him get better.
We sit behind the flight of the cross and in real time we could see Patto was fouled and the ref had a clear view of it .. bad decision so I ain't going to give Patto grief on that.Don't understand why some of us are so negative ,we are clearly not the finished article but christ we have so much untapped potential. Defending set pieces and recovering game control after we sit off for a break are the two main points of improvement for me, yet we are 4th ,twice in 3 seasons in top 6 ..happy days
It’s swings and roundabouts for me. We’ve defo had decisions against us and some that have benefitted us and I’d much rather that than the shower of ****e that is VAR officiating every decision and waiting a few minutes for marginal offside decisions. Should’ve had a penalty against Hull but then got lucky with Mayenda at Sheff Wed. I’m not sure that’s much of a foul on Patto like. Yes the player jumped and they brush arms but if anything he’s jumped into the Cardiff player who’s not moved from his original position and he still doesn’t look like he’s catching the ball. It’s mistimed imo. Keepers are very protected these days though so who knows.
Agree totally. For me it's not a foul but by today's rule of any touch on a keeper is a foul it's definitely a foul. Despite this going against us yesterday I hope more challenges like this aren't given as free kicks as it would actually allow a striker to jump with and actually challenge a goal keeper for a ball in the air.
Reggie said in the after match press conference that Roberts felt a tightness didn’t say where so came off rather than push it
That's a foul on Patto. The striker's raised arm pushes his left arm away from the flight of the ball. I hadn't seen that slow mo until this morning. What a save at the start of the second half. Crucial in helping us get the win.
Challenging a 'keeper in his six yard box is simply not allowed, which makes it obvious that yesterday's incident was definitely a foul. It doesn't matter how strongly those who want it to be Patta's fault argue about it
The players arm is above his head at full stretch going into the keeper. I don't have a problem if he's challenging the keeper by going for the ball, but at best you can only argue that he's going for the ball with his arm.
