All entitled to but the way some go on you’d have thought we lost and are in a relegation battle. Régis got it right - we won and we’re 4th. Bloke near me shouted “you’re vucking Shiite” at Tommy Watson. Give over. Enjoy the win, put some joy In your life.
Big shout out to the ref for the most baffling decision of all time, giving Cardiff a drop ball for (answers on a postcard). I think my view is the same as a lot I’ve seen, superb football first 20 mins, roberts goes off and it stopped us blowing Cardiff away. Ive always said Patterson is a brilliant shot stopper but I think we need to start looking for a new number 1. Good win, nearly shot ourselves in the foot again but we got over the line.
Do see a world Mayenda gets moved to the right when Isidor has had his few game rest. I just think he’s so dangerous centrally, even in more of a ten role. Turns so quick, always wants to attack when he gets the ball (something Rigg needs to get into his game imo) and he’s shown he can pick a pass especially with Isidor ahead of him. Either way, I think Mayenda has forced his way in as a starter for the rest of the season now, incredible progression this season for him.
Any of you lads who are into Stats know how many goals we've scored from dead ball situations this season? Thanks in advance.
Back from the game, sat down with a few bottles and had a think before posting. Started off well, seriously quicker than we have at home for a few games. Mayenda took his goal well. Initially I thought Patto was fouled for their goal but would need to see it back properly again but if he wasn't, for me there's no excuse for not wiping the man out claiming the ball. For people having a go about Roberts, today showed why he's in the team. Hume was further forward than he was at times and he was doing a lot of defensive work covering. Bringing Rigg on wouldn't have been the substitution I would've made but looking back now I can see why Reggie did but Hume didn't get as far forward than he did with Roberts. Cardiff were onto Dan Neil a lot today stopping him play as well as he can but he didn't stop trying. Jobe was hit and miss today, fine done good, some bad. Couldn't believe he didn't pass when both Mayenda and Isidor were waiting for the ball to be slid in and he got fouled for the free kick. And can anyone tell me why the referee stopped the game for 5 minutes only to give Cardiff a drop ball instead of a corner to us? We made hard work of the game but we got the right result thanks to Mepham. I think it could've been a lot more comfortable if players made better choices in the final third but that's what you get with younger players. But we got the 3 points and that's what counts. The day itself hasn't been too bad, watched the grandson play football this morning near Boldon. His team won, he scored a hat-trick and got a few assists and got his usually pukka pie before the batch so he went home happy tonight
I've seen replays but I still don't know if there was a foul on Patto. What I would say is that the lino on my side spent all 1st half with her hand up shielding her eyes from the sun. Why don't they wear caps. Is it a vanity thing?
Is there anything in the rules stopping them wearing sunglasses? If you can run in them they could wear them, understand a keeper needing a cap over glasses but ref or lino?
the sun and seagulls were a bugger today, best start this season today by the lads just need to keep it going in 2nd half of games, but changes need to be made to rest players now i cannot see us making the top 2 as we will need about 92 points, but who knows, but will we play Coventry in the play offs if we lose to B city and WBA away that might help them get a top 6 spot and keep Cov out and i hope we win there next week, this is like 2004 when Crystal palace nicked the last play off spot and they were the form team and beat us and went up.
We could easily play him as a 10, he has played a bunch of beautiful through balls over the season, and he’s strong in tights spaces. Thing is, the way his finishing is coming on now, he is looking more and more like a deadly 9 by the week. That was a beautiful finish again today.
A wins a win ... the two teams above have won plenty of games whilst not playing well ..I'll take the points thanks ..I one of those who thinks Patto has gone backwards this season ,he is a weakness for us at the moment but not today ,I thought it was a foul on him not his fault.
Mad how when teams grind out results ‘that’s the sign of a good side’ or ‘that’s how you go up’ When it’s us it’s ****ing bedlam. We are a ****ing good side and we found a way to win. The whinging ****ers are back in force inside the stadium now as well after a glorious few months of peace. We are 4th, and doing superb work to stay there.
My take other than the inevitable strain on my high blood pressure!! First twenty minutes very positive,a great press led to the goal. Mayenda finish top drawer. He is getting better and better. Roberts injury - you know he divides opinions but he just gives the team such a better shape. To be fair we had an iffy spell after that. A daft goal (was Patto fouled?). He still should do better. He redeemed himself with a very good save. Last 20 much better should have done better with a few attacks but a clever free kick did the business Credit where credit's due this team does not give up. Remember last week Cardiff gave Burnley a scare. Better use and timing of subs today A pleasant enough afternoon in the main.
Today was another case of a team changing from their 4 at the back formation to a 5 at the back to try and see out a result and it lead to them conceding. Think as soon as Cardiff made that switch it created a load more space for us to attack into and allowed us to dominate the ball more. It's happened a few times this season in our games both by us or by the opposition. Think it was Plymouth at home we went to a 5 and they equalised not long after, and Watford at home they went to a 5 and we equalised soon after. I think I would prefer to bring on another body in midfield over an additional player in the defensive line. The 5 just allows teams to step up higher and dominate the ball, whereas an extra body in midfield stops the oppositions creative players gaining space and creating a chance. Just my thoughts. Glad Cardiff did it today.
I've just been catching up with this thread and, so far, the list of 'shyte players' is, Patterson Hjelde Jobe Neil Rigg Browne And let's not forget the manager. Reading this forum it seems we had 20 minutes when we weren't shyte and 70 minutes when we were ... ... except a brief moment when we scored the winner of course
