Never gonna happen, keepers will still be laying on the floor on 10 seconds while the refs will be too busy finding somewhere else to look.

God I've become cynical!

The 2026 World Cup final will stage a Super Bowl-style half-time show for the first time, with Coldplay helping to pick a "list of artists" to perform.

The tournament, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, concludes with the final on 19 July 2026 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Though pre-match performances at showpiece occasions such as the Champions League final have become commonplace, there has never been a half-time show at a World Cup final.

Half-times in the regular NFL season last around 15 minutes but they are extended up to 30 minutes at the Super Bowl in order to accommodate a half-time show.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino says Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin and band manager Phil Harvey will help to establish a set of artists to perform in the 15-minute break at next year's final.

"I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a Fifa World Cup final in New York New Jersey," Infantino wrote on Instagram.

"This will be a historic moment for the Fifa World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world."

If the recent Superbowl is anything to go by God help us. The Americanisation of sport is truly shyte...

Gianni the infant now wants 64 teams for WC 2030....no need for qualifiers as everyone will be going

Just read that WC 2026, at a certain stage in the tournament there will be 6 games a day

Even for me that's way too much football
48 teams in the next one is insane, even thinking about 60 is just greed, the quality will be even lower.

I’ve believed football will eat itself for years but it hasn’t happened yet. Surely this bollocks isn’t sustainable?

I watched my grandson play for Wealdstone under-6s this morning. It's sad to see the damage that the example set by the PL prima donnas does to kids. At corners, they were doing all the wrestling that they see the pros do and one occasion a kid got accidentally kicked in the stomach. He wasn't hurt, but immediately fell to the floor and rolled around as if shot. The ref was from the opposing team and at one point had to stop the game to ask some of the parents to stop criticising his decisions. Depressing.

I blame the grandparents.
