He's 35 and he's already gained coaching experience at Saints, Leipzig and Bayern Munich while also spending time as the assistant manager of the German national team. At Sheffield Wednesday, with very little resources, he's taken a team who were clear favourites for relegation from the bottom of the Championship to just outside the play offs in a year. Not a bad coaching CV for a 35 year old. His reputation is growing and now is the time to get him in.
Rohl has a better track record than Martin on paper tbf. Been around higher level clubs. I think he seems like a good fit - provided we give him some decent players. Top choice for me though would be someone that’s already won championship promotion before (cooper? Whoever else is available in the summer). A steady hand with some experience feels sensible due to the amount of change required and the **** state we are in.
Every Sheffield Wednesday fan thinks he’s the puppy’s privates too, and the only reason the club is being held together. You seldom see a universal love for a manager like that.
Can't wait for the new era to start, i'll never not care about how we play but these next few months are going to drag.
I agree that would be ideal. But unless you're willing to wait until Leeds inevitably sack Farke at some point next season, then the options are slim. If you look at which managers have won the Championship in the past 10 seasons, they include the current managers of Chelsea, Leeds (twice), Bayern, Fulham, Uruguay, Forest, and Newcastle. None of whom will be joining us this summer. Which just leaves Dyche and Benitez. I'm not saying that either are bad managers (I've always rated Rafa), but it is a very small pool to choose from.
Missing a fairly obvious person in Cooper? Pretty sure he was saying someone who'd won promotion rather than the division.
I am not sure mate. A slightly above average championship manager in my eyes. But he might just be the right fit at the right time for us.
Assistant Manager at Bayern Munich when they won the Champions League, and were pretty much unstoppable (remember the 8-2 drubbing they gave Barcelona?). Assistant Manager of Germany. You don't get given these types of job for nothing, come on.
I guess in the absence of actual and fact based news, this kind of thing keeps us more interested than watching out the rest of the season. I realise I’m flying in the face of the growing popular opinion on these things but I just find so called news stories of who’s going to be sacked/appointed a bit irritating. Although we cannot surely perform worse than is our current trend, such ‘news’ is hardly likely to improve the situation but instead remove any need for the players/coaches/manager to turn up for training etc. But that’s just me I guess, in a world which makes less sense each day, I can’t expect anything sensible from football of all sports.
I disagree. I think the early planning for next season, and the rumours of a new manager having already been chosen, would likely inspire the players. They will hopefully want to finish the season strongly so that they are firmly in the new guy's plans. Apparently the players don't like Juric anyway, so it's hardly likely to upset them that he is leaving. I'm dubious about the Rohl links anyway, mainly because good things aren't allowed to happen to this club at the moment, but also because anything could happen before the summer. A Bundesliga club could come in a gazzump us. I think Hamburg were recently looking to hire him. The rumours saying it's all but done are obviously an exaggeration imo, because there would be absolutely nothing official that could be done about it until he actually leaves Wednesday.
I guess your final paragraph is more likely a span out of things. I’m just not a fan of rumours, though I recognise for some they are fun!!
Agreed. It it was all but done then surely we'd be agreeing the PL level of compensation too which doesn't seem likely given other noise and previous. I think it's clear he's our number one target. I just hope we have a backup option and aren't putting all our eggs in one basket as anything can happen as you say.
