    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Deepdale
    Date - 4 March 2025
    Kick off - 7:45pm

Following, in his first match in charge, a much needed victory over Play Off hopefuls Blackburn, next up for Alan Sheehan’s Swansea squad is a visit to Lancashire to play a Preston team buoyed by its success in reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

A week last Saturday, the Swans made a spectacular start to life after Luke Williams as they comprehensively beat play-off contenders Blackburn Rovers to earn their first home win of 2025.

Five days after sacking former head coach Williams following a run of eight defeats in 10 games, the Swans were reinvigorated under interim boss Alan Sheehan as they built a commanding 2-0 half-time lead.

Zan Vipotnik put the hosts in front as he slid in from close range, before the striker's rugged physicality created the space for Myles Peart-Harris to scamper clear and finish impressively.

Swansea continued to apply pressure after the interval and their top scorer Liam Cullen added a third goal with a sweet first-time finish from Peart-Harris' pass.

Blackburn had no answer to their rejuvenated opponents, whose fans regularly chanted Sheehan's name as the coach made a dream start to his second temporary spell in charge of the team.

Having lost their previous three matches at the Swansea.com Stadium, this victory lifted the Swans up to 16th in the table.

Milutin Osmajic was on the scoresheet as two-time winners Preston claimed bragging rights in Lancashire by thumping local rivals Burnley in the FA Cup fifth round.

Build-up to the contest was overshadowed by Preston's Osmajic being accused of racially abusing Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri during the meeting of the sides here two weeks ago - an allegation which the Montenegro forward denies.

Osmajic started the game but Hannibal was left out of the squad and the Clarets players refused to acknowledge the Preston player in the pre-match handshake.

Once the match got under way, Osmajic was in the thick of the action immediately, running clear and shooting wide in the opening seconds, much to the delight of the away supporters.

But there was no denying Osmajic on the stroke of half-time when he collected Brad Potts' through ball and drilled a clinical finish past Vaclav Hladky, before taunting the Clarets fans in celebration by cupping his hands around his ears towards their direction.

Burnley's astonishing defensive record has produced 12 consecutive clean sheets in their push for promotion from the Championship, but they were stunned when Robbie Brady curled in a glorious 25-yard free-kick against his old club.

Preston added a third goal in the second half as Will Keane poked in from close range, while at the other end Freddie Woodman made a superb save to deny Zian Flemming as Burnley were knocked out.

Preston will host Villa in the quarter final.

The Swans have played Preston on 72 previous occasions, winning 30, drawing 18 and losing 24. One on those defeats was an FA Cup semi final (in 1964) played at Villa Park when the Swans lost 2-1.

In the corresponding match last season, Preston ran out 2-1 winners:

Turning to tomorrow night, I’m hoping that the Swans can return to South Wales with a point in a 1-1 draw. <cheers>

This post has been fact checked and approved <laugh>

    Sorry Taff, just joking

The draw appears to be the realistically optimistic prediction, so I'll say 1 - 1 as well.

Hoping the feel good factor of the win against Blackburn is still being felt by the players and Prestons players having one eye on keeping fit for their big match against the Villa I think we can win this 2 nil.

Sky commentators talking about Preston being potential Play-Off contenders, whilst we are looking over our shoulders…..

Yet we are only 2 points behind them and if we win tonight, we’d go above them …

Much more enjoyable watching us play this way rather than side to side possession stuff.
